The Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of An Giang province added: The landslides, cracks, and subsidence of riverbanks, canals, and ditches have a total length of more than 5km, affecting 72 houses that need to be urgently relocated (of which, 9 houses completely collapsed and 13 houses partially collapsed into rivers, canals, and ditches). The estimated cost of land damage is approximately 12 billion VND.
In particular, a severe landslide occurred at 1:00 AM on September 4th, on the road from Ut Na culvert to Dau Con market (landslide of the left branch of the Hau River at the head of My Hoa Hung islet) in Hamlet 5, My Thuan village, My Hoa Hung commune. The landslide covered a length of 100m, extending about 25m inland, causing two houses to completely collapse into the river.
According to Mr. Vo Van Len, for areas with large and complex landslides, the Department of Agriculture and Environment of An Giang province advises the Provincial People's Committee to propose to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment to invest in embankment projects to prevent riverbank and canal erosion in areas experiencing dangerous and urgent landslides.
In addition, the Department has reviewed major landslide areas, proposed immediate and long-term solutions to address these areas, and submitted them to the Provincial People's Committee for consideration and implementation. Specifically, the Department proposed grouping 20 major landslide areas into priority categories, with a total landslide remediation length of 27,332 meters and a total budget of 4,485 billion VND, to secure investment from both the central and provincial governments for implementation in the coming period.
