World No. 12 Anisimova made an inspired comeback to reach her first Wimbledon final, beating Sabalenka 6-4, 4-6, 6-4, a match that featured plenty of errors and few brilliance from both players in 30-degree weather.
But Anisimova ultimately won thanks to her superior mental fortitude. This unexpected victory is a significant moment in Anisimova's career, after she took a considerable break to prioritize her mental health.
"Right now I feel like everything is a dream. Sabalenka is a formidable opponent and I was almost exhausted," Anisimova said in her on-court interview.
"I don't know how I did it. Winning today and reaching the Wimbledon final is incredibly special."
In the other semi-final, Iga Swiatek also reached the Wimbledon final for the first time after easily winning 2-0 (6-2, 6-0) against Belinda Bencic.
This five-time Grand Slam champion used to struggle on grass courts because her playing style was better suited to the clay surfaces of Roland Garros.
However, after losing his dominance at Roland Garros, Swiątek is showing impressive form at Wimbledon 2025 and is determined to seek his first Grand Slam title this year.
The final match between Swiątek and Anisimova, taking place on July 12th, will be well worth watching.
