According to 9to5Mac , the Apple Watch's fall detection feature helped save a man's life in Georgia, USA. Mike Menand was hiking in the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area when his two dogs spotted a coyote in the distance and became frightened. They then suddenly ran off, causing him to fall and drag him along the trail.

This immediately triggered the fall detection feature on his Apple Watch, and the watch helped him contact emergency services. "I couldn't even use my phone because it was in my pocket and I was lying on top of it," Menand said. He broke his leg in the accident and had surgery to have a titanium rod implanted in it.
Menand said he didn't know what would have happened if he hadn't been wearing his Apple Watch that day. Just a month after Menand's accident, another woman also fell while hiking in the same recreational area and did not survive. He said, "When I read the news, I thought it could have been me. Because when the accident happened, I was alone, there was no one around, and no one really knew where I was."
The Apple Watch's fall detection feature works by using sensors to detect activities that are likely to result in a fall. The device will then automatically call emergency services if the owner doesn't turn off the alert within one minute of the fall. The services will receive a text message notification and the location of the person involved.
