Currently (December 11th), a strong cold air mass in the North is reported to be moving southward.
Forecasts indicate that around December 13th, a cold front will affect the Northeast region, then the North Central region, the Northwest region, and the Central region. Inland, strong northeasterly winds of force 3-4 will prevail, with coastal areas experiencing winds of force 4-5, and in some places reaching force 6, gusting to force 7-8.
In the Northern region, the weather will turn cold from December 13th. In the mountainous and midland areas of the Northern region, it will be intensely cold from December 13th to 14th, with some high mountainous areas experiencing severe cold; some areas in the Northern delta region will also experience intensely cold weather.
From the night of December 13th, the North Central region will experience cold weather. The lowest temperatures during this cold spell in the mountainous and midland areas of Northern Vietnam will generally range from 7-10 degrees Celsius, with some high mountainous areas experiencing temperatures below 5 degrees Celsius; in the plains, temperatures will generally range from 11-14 degrees Celsius; and in the North Central region, temperatures will generally range from 12-15 degrees Celsius.
In the Hanoi area, moderate to heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected on the night of December 12th and throughout December 13th. During thunderstorms, there is a possibility of tornadoes, lightning, hail, and strong gusts of wind. From December 13th onwards, the weather will turn cold, with some areas experiencing severe cold. The lowest temperatures during this cold spell will generally be 12-14 degrees Celsius.
At sea, from noon and afternoon of December 13th, in the Gulf of Tonkin, there will be strong northeasterly winds of force 7, sometimes force 8, gusting to force 9, with rough seas and waves 2.0-4.0m high; in the northern South China Sea (including the Hoang Sa Special Economic Zone), there will be strong northeasterly winds of force 7-8, gusting to force 9-10, with rough seas and waves 4.0-6.0m high.
From late afternoon and night of December 13th, the sea area from southern Quang Tri to Ca Mau , the central East Sea, and the western sea area of the southern East Sea (including the western sea area of the Truong Sa special zone) will experience strong northeasterly winds of force 6, sometimes force 7, gusting to force 8-9, with rough seas and waves 3.0-5.0m high.
Due to the influence of a cold front combined with convergence in the upper westerly wind zone, from the night of December 12th to the end of the night of December 13th, the Northern and North Central regions will experience moderate to heavy rain and thunderstorms, with some areas experiencing very heavy rain. During thunderstorms, there is a possibility of tornadoes, lightning, hail, and strong gusts of wind.
From the night of December 13th to the end of the night of December 14th, the area from Quang Tri to Da Nang City and the eastern parts of the provinces from Quang Ngai to Dak Lak and Khanh Hoa will experience rain, moderate rain, with some areas experiencing heavy rain and thunderstorms.
