VietnamPlus Electronic Newspaper celebrates 15th anniversary of establishment and receives First Class Labor Medal

Reading the commemorative speech, journalist Tran Tien Duan, Editor-in-Chief of VietnamPlus Electronic Newspaper, said that at exactly 5:00 p.m. on November 13, 2008, Vietnam News Agency officially launched the VietnamPlus electronic newspaper (Vietnam+) - the official electronic newspaper of Vietnam News Agency (VNA).

Being established late, VietnamPlus chose to take steady steps, finding its own path to get closer to readers by strongly applying modern technology, approaching and grasping the development trends of media, constantly improving working methods and journalistic style, especially creating unique journalistic products with high professional quality.

15 years of effort, 15 years of creativity, has won more than 100 different large and small press awards, of which 51 are in the System of 5 major press awards: National Press Award (6 A Prizes); Foreign Affairs Award (5 First Prizes); Golden Hammer and Sickle Award (1 A Prize); Anti-corruption and Negativity Award and Dien Hong Award. In addition, VietnamPlus also won 3 international press awards.

In addition, VietnamPlus has also been recognized with many International Awards from prestigious organizations such as WAN-IFRA (World Association of News Publishers, for the product RapNewsPlus, Anti-Fake News product), OANA (Organization of Asia-Pacific News Agencies, for the product Chatbot), and was ranked by WAN-IFRA as one of the Most Innovative Small Newsrooms in the World.

Attending and giving a very emotional speech, the first "Captain" of VietnamPlus Electronic Newspaper - journalist Le Quoc Minh - Member of the Party Central Committee, Editor-in-Chief of Nhan Dan Newspaper, Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda Department, Chairman of the Vietnam Journalists Association shared: "I remember the difficult early days, the whole editorial office struggled in a tiny attic room, and I was given a corner of about 8 square meters in the hallway, the wall was only a little higher than a person's head, but in that room, many ideas were born".

Journalist Le Quoc Minh also remembers the terrible feeling when VietnamPlus had just been born and encountered technological problems until it switched to a new content management system in July 2009. And from that time, the name VietnamPlus has been associated with modern journalism technology, quickly grasping the trends of world journalism and technology to continuously launch breakthrough information products.

“From an editorial office with a staff of mostly fresh graduates, the Newspaper now possesses an extremely elite force. I have not directly managed VietnamPlus since the end of 2017, but the memories of the past journey will never fade,” shared the first Editor-in-Chief of the Newspaper.

The VietnamPlus Electronic Newspaper Branch also received a Certificate of Merit from the Vietnam Journalists Association.

Also at the Ceremony, on behalf of the Party Committee and the Board of Directors of Vietnam News Agency, General Director Vu Viet Trang acknowledged and highly appreciated the achievements that VietnamPlus Electronic Newspaper has attained over the past 15 years.

To maintain its position as a national foreign electronic newspaper, comrade Vu Viet Trang requested the VietnamPlus Electronic Newspaper to continue promoting the spirit of dynamism, creativity, and solidarity, identifying its role and position as an official source of information serving the Party's leadership, the State's management, and the people's interests; increasing the coverage of positive information and fighting against false arguments of hostile forces in cyberspace.

On behalf of the Party and State leaders, Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan awarded the First Class Medal to VietnamPlus Electronic Newspaper, praising the achievements the Newspaper has made in recent times. The Vice President also presented the Newspaper with a portrait of President Ho Chi Minh, as a message to the team of journalists of Vietnam News Agency in general, and VietnamPlus in particular, to continue to move forward and do a good job in information and propaganda work, especially as the country's leading foreign affairs newspaper.

The VietnamPlus Electronic Newspaper Branch also received a Certificate of Merit from the Vietnam Journalists Association. In addition, the General Director of Vietnam News Agency presented Certificates of Merit to the following individuals: Editor-in-Chief of VietnamPlus Electronic Newspaper Tran Tien Duan, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of VietnamPlus Electronic Newspaper Doan Ngoc Thu and reporter Vo Manh Hung.

In particular, to complete the digital ecosystem, VietnamPlus has brought news (in both Text-to-Speech and reader formats) to the Smart Speaker platform using the Vietnamese virtual assistant Maika. This is also a step in the Mobile First strategy, a pillar in the Digital Transformation process of VietnamPlus. The newspaper also launched a mini-app to reach millions of Zalo users, and a Progressive WebApp that directly sends breaking news to subscribers' devices.
