Prensa Latina and VNA have great potential to expand cooperation in technology development, improve professional capacity for journalists, especially in content production, and proactively respond to fake news, the new President of Cuba's state news agency, Prensa Latina, affirmed in an interview with VNA reporters in Hanoi on December 4, 2025.

Mr. Jorge Legañoa Alonso said that the common challenges of both news agencies today are training human resources, focusing on modern professional techniques to maintain their position as a leading multimedia agency, while applying digital tools, artificial intelligence and developing their own platforms to be proactive in technology. Therefore, the two sides need to exchange expertise, share and cooperate in content production as well as proactively respond to fake news.

“With more than 65 years of experience fighting together on the front against false arguments, Prensa Latina and VNA have a great responsibility to work together to make the voice of truth resonate far and wide in the international arena,” he emphasized.

Party Congress - a milestone in Vietnam's new development path

Visiting Hanoi right at the time when the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam is about to take place, Mr. Legañoa Alonso commented that this especially important political event will mark a new stage in the development process of Vietnam.

He appreciated that Vietnam is outlining a very clear roadmap for the future, with very specific goals: economic development, human development and social indicators. “With clear documents and a favorable political and social environment, the Congress will be a good start for Vietnam to move forward,” he said.

In the international arena, the President of Prensa Latina said that Vietnam has been affirming its prominent role thanks to its dynamism and many practical contributions, for example in the field of environment. He also affirmed that Vietnam has always been a reliable companion of Cuba in facing international political challenges. At the United Nations, Vietnam firmly supports Cuba in asking the US to end the embargo that has lasted for more than 60 years.

“Vietnam is one of the few countries that understands the pain of the embargo, and Vietnam is living proof that a country can flourish when unjust sanctions are lifted,” he said. Cuba believes that Vietnam will continue to speak out in support of its island nation in international forums.

Vietnam - a symbol of solidarity and cooperation

He said that Vietnam is one of the major investors in Cuba, especially in the Mariel Special Economic Zone. The 80 MW solar power plant project that Vietnam has just started in Cuba on the occasion of the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries (December 2, 1960 - December 2, 2025) is not only an economic investment, but also a symbol of solidarity and cooperation.

Recalling the words of Cuban Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro 60 years ago - “For Vietnam, Cuba is willing to sacrifice its blood!” - Mr. Legañoa Alonso emotionally said: “Sixty years later, the Vietnamese people are still demonstrating that steadfast love through actions, with rice and cash aid amounting to nearly 25 million USD. That is a strong testament to the close brotherhood between our two peoples.”

He shared that Cuba hopes that Vietnam will continue to steadfastly follow the path of socialism, consolidate its strong position in the region and have an increasingly prominent role in the international arena, so that the two countries can together promote issues for common interests.

Comprehensive and harmonious transformation

Assessing Vietnam's development achievements, especially in the socio-economic and media fields, the President of Prensa Latina said that he has followed and witnessed Vietnam's strong transformation over the past 40 years, a comprehensive transformation not only in the economy but also in the social aspect, demonstrated by increasingly high economic indicators, especially GDP growth and per capita income. He was particularly impressed with the "very clear roadmap" that Vietnam has outlined for the future, with specific goals for 2030 and 2045.

Returning to Hanoi after 7 years, Mr. Jorge Legañoa Alonso clearly felt the positive changes in Vietnamese society. Vietnam develops rapidly but does not lose its historical roots and traditions. A visit to the Military History Museum also helped him better understand the resilient identity of the Vietnamese people, the lessons from the past, and how a country that rose from war has reoriented itself to economic development.

He especially appreciated the profound humanitarian spirit of the Vietnamese government, demonstrated through its political determination to “leave no one behind” in dealing with natural disasters and epidemics, as well as Vietnam’s efforts to ensure stable housing for people in flood-affected areas before this year’s Lunar New Year./.
