Thailand’s Matichon newspaper warned against the appearance of bookmaker logos on television during the opening football match of the SEA Games. Not only in Vietnam, this country is also facing the intrusion of illegal and fraudulent betting platforms.

“The live broadcast is causing inconvenience to the public. Many parties are calling on the authorities and the government to remove the gambling website from Thailand,” Matichon wrote. The unit said that the 33rd SEA Games Sponsor Rights Protection Center has been continuously handling sponsorship violations since the start of the sports event. Therefore, they also need to be responsible in preventing the exploitation of the SEA Games to advertise online betting.

On the afternoon of December 3, Vietnam met Laos in Group B, SEA Games 33 took place at Rajamangala Stadium. Many times during the match, the production unit of the host country Thailand caught people in the stands carrying illegal betting website banners, targeting Vietnamese users. Through live television, these gambling platforms reach domestic customers through the broadcasting channels of a series of television stations.

For example, in the 28th minute, when Dinh Bac scored, the camera immediately turned to the stands where Vietnamese fans gathered. Standing out in the middle of the frame was a group of women wearing shirts with the logo of the betting platform O****, which is on the blacklist, banned from advertising issued by the Ministry of Information and Communications . These people also held banners supporting the Vietnamese team, but the accompanying text was the betting website brand.

The scene was also slowed down and replayed later. On the other hand, the trick of bringing girls to the football field to advertise gambling websites is not new. In 2019, Japanese adult film actress Maria Ozawa appeared at the Rizal Memorial Stadium during the match between Thailand and Indonesia at the SEA Games to advertise a gambling platform.

According to the reporter of Tri Thuc - Znews present at Rajamangala stadium, this group of fans went in a group, wearing uniforms with the bookmaker's logo. After appearing on television, these people wore protective jackets and put away advertising banners.

These images quickly attracted attention and became a hot topic on social networks. Many football fans expressed surprise when the betting website appeared on national television channels. Immediately after that, in the Thailand - Timor Leste match, VTV commentators had to read a notice reminding users not to access illegal betting and gambling websites before the start of the first half.

In addition to letting the image of illegal bookmakers slip through, host country Thailand also made a mistake when the stadium did not play the national anthems of Laos and Vietnam when the two teams saluted before the match.
