Previously, the Binh Tan District Police discovered a group of individuals, led by Tuan, who were stealing car mirrors in the area.

On January 17th, the police summoned Tuan, Ai (who lived with Tuan as his wife); and Thong, Vy (who lived with Thong as his wife) to the station for questioning. There, the suspects confessed to the theft.

Specifically, the suspects conspired and worked together to steal rearview mirrors from cars parked on the street. They chose nighttime and times when no one was watching to commit the thefts.

The group assigned tasks to each member and rode on two motorcycles, patrolling various streets. When they spotted a parked car unattended, Tuan and Thong would steal the rearview mirrors.

Vy and Ai stood guard, keeping the car engine running and waiting. After stealing the mirrors, Vy and Ai drove Thong and Tuan away from the scene. The stolen property was then given to Thong to sell, and the money was divided among the group for their expenses.

Initially, the group confessed that from the beginning of 2024 until their arrest, they committed at least three property thefts in Binh Tan District.

Through further investigation, the police checked the car mirror purchasing points of the theft group and summoned Uyen for questioning. Uyen confessed that although she knew the rearview mirrors Thong was selling were stolen goods, she still bought them to resell them for a profit. After purchasing them, Uyen resold them to Viet (the owner of a car repair shop in Binh Thanh District).

Items seized

During a search of the suspects' residences, police seized over 270 pairs of car rearview mirrors. According to the police, Tuan, along with Thong, Ai, and Vy, all used drugs; Tuan and Thong both had prior criminal records; Vy had a prior record for illegal drug use; and Uyen had two prior convictions for "Receiving stolen property."

The Ho Chi Minh City Police Department urges anyone who has been a victim of this group to contact the police station where the theft occurred to report the incident and assist in the investigation. The police also advise citizens to increase their vigilance, protect their property, and not allow these individuals to take advantage of vulnerabilities to commit robbery and theft.
