On the afternoon of December 22nd, Quang Nam Central General Hospital (located in Nui Thanh District, Quang Nam Province) announced that it had just treated a 4-year-old child who suffered burns to the entire face after a balloon exploded upon contact with a spark.
The patient is TTS (4 years old, from Ninh Phuoc commune, Nong Son district, Quang Nam province).
After several days of monitoring and treatment in the hospital's Trauma Surgery department, S.'s health has stabilized, and she can now drink and carry out daily activities almost normally. Furthermore, the burn wound is no longer leaking fluid and has dried up.
After several days of monitoring and treatment, S.'s health is now stable.
Earlier, on the evening of December 19th, the Trauma Surgery Department of Quang Nam Central General Hospital received child patient TTS in a critical condition with severe burns to the entire face, head, and neck.
Immediately afterward, doctors provided emergency treatment and determined that the child had suffered second-degree dry heat burns covering 9% of the head, face, and neck area due to a domestic accident.
According to family members, on the afternoon of December 19th, after school, S. bought Santa Claus-shaped balloons from a vendor outside the school gate and brought them home to play with.
Later that evening, the child took out a lighter (which was out of gas) to play with. Accidentally, some gas remained and created a spark that came into contact with a balloon filled with hydrogen gas. The balloon exploded violently, causing burns to the child's head, face, and neck.
After the accident, because her face was burning, the child rubbed it with her hands, causing the skin on her face to peel and the burns to worsen.
Upon discovering the incident, the family immediately took the child to Quang Nam Central General Hospital for emergency treatment.
The leadership of Quang Nam Central General Hospital advises parents that when children are burned at home, they should clean the burn with saline solution, prevent children from rubbing their hands on the burn (as this will contaminate the wound and lead to infection), and then quickly take the child to the nearest medical facility for timely first aid.
