The province of Ben Tre has just announced geographical indications for seven key products: freshwater prawns, clams, sea crabs, durian, rambutan, mangoes, and rice.

On the morning of June 14th, within the framework of the 27th Mekong Delta Regional Science and Technology Conference, Ben Tre province announced geographical indications and performed the ceremony of affixing geographical indication stamps to 7 key products.
Accordingly, to date, Ben Tre province has been granted geographical indication certificates by the Intellectual Property Office ( Ministry of Science and Technology ) for 9 products, including: green Siamese coconut, green pomelo, durian, rambutan, four-season mango, sea crab, green prawn, clam, and rice. This places Ben Tre among the top provinces nationwide with 9 geographical indications protected. Of these, the geographical indications for green Siamese coconut and green pomelo were officially announced by Ben Tre province in 2018. Ben Tre province is also developing geographical indications for 4 more products.
Through geographical indication protection, local products are elevated in consumer choice, exploitation and promotion become easier and more convenient, attracting investment to promote tourism in Ben Tre province and the region where those products are located.

Currently, Ben Tre is prioritizing attracting investment in agricultural projects, especially high-tech agriculture, aiming to build the province into a reliable destination for research and technology transfer in agricultural production for farmers and businesses. Therefore, product quality plays a crucial role for businesses and farmers, and geographical indications are the best way to protect the unique characteristics of products, ensure clear origin, and maintain consistent quality.
