New Eastern Bus Station picks up and drops off passengers via app from July 2

On the afternoon of June 27th, at a press conference providing information on socio -economic issues in Ho Chi Minh City, Mr. Do Ngoc Hai, Head of the Road Management and Exploitation Department of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport, stated that the Department is implementing solutions to attract passengers to the Eastern Bus Station.

One of the solutions is that the new Eastern Bus Station is implementing a model of organizing passenger transfer, using software, through an App on the device; interaction between parties including the bus station unit, transport unit, and intermediary transport unit (if any).

Passengers download the application to register information and track the registered vehicle route located on a smart map integrated with software to determine the vehicle that will pick them up.

Passengers are picked up and dropped off at fixed points in bus stations, shopping malls, hospitals, train stations, etc. and at points according to passenger needs, coordinated by the transport unit and inter-provincial bus station, updated on the transfer software.

Passenger transfer costs are included in the fare structure of passenger transport routes built and declared by fixed-route transport units.

According to Mr. Hai, the application of the transfer technology will be in two phases. First, it will be applied at the new Eastern Bus Station on July 1; transfer will be organized in some central areas of the city including: Districts 1, 3, 5, 7, 10, Binh Thanh, Phu Nhuan, Tan Binh, Tan Phu, Go Vap, Thu Duc City.

After implementation, the Department will monitor and continue to expand the scope of operations to the remaining districts.

Phase 2, applied at the remaining inter-provincial bus stations such as Mien Tay Bus Station, Mien Dong Bus Station, An Suong Bus Station, Nga Tu Ga Bus Station. Expected to be implemented from January 1, 2025 or when the organization of passenger transfer to/from Mien Dong Bus Station is stabilized.

Before proposing phase 2, Saigon Transport Mechanical Corporation Limited will summarize the operation of phase 1.

According to statistics, the passenger volume at the new Eastern Bus Station in the first 6 months of the year was over 1 million passengers, equivalent to about 102,000 trips, compared to the same period in 2023, an increase of 122% in passenger volume and 55% in trips.
