The inauguration of the second phase of construction for Bach Mai Hospital and Viet Duc Friendship Hospital will be held on December 19, 2025.

Speaking to the press on the morning of December 11th, Dr. Duong Duc Hung, Director of Viet Duc Friendship Hospital, said that, given its status as a leading surgical facility, bringing the second hospital branch into operation requires many factors: infrastructure, machinery and equipment, human resources, and mechanisms. The hospital also has to meet requirements for sterile operating rooms, and must take air samples before opening operating rooms to ensure infection prevention.

After the construction project is completed and handed over, the hospital must inspect all equipment systems, finalize wastewater discharge permits, radiation safety permits, hospital classification, and issue regulations on pricing.

Therefore, by the first quarter of 2026 at the latest, the hospital will begin receiving and treating patients directly.

Regarding human resources, Mr. Hung affirmed that there would be no difference in the quality of medical examination and treatment between the two facilities. Recently, the hospital has been seeking additional human resources, including doctors and nurses, from health-related schools in Hanoi , Ninh Binh, Hung Yen, etc., to recruit and train the best quality personnel and to provide continuous training.

"We don't allow any deviations in surgery, and we don't compromise the quality of our primary facility. For advanced techniques, we will perform them at our primary facility. Therefore, the hospital must establish a specialization system to determine which facility should perform which type of surgery, ensuring the best quality of treatment for patients while still reducing the hospital's burden. We are always committed to putting quality first," said Dr. Hung.

Besides professional expertise, the hospital also focuses on training and educating medical staff on medical ethics so that the medical team continues to uphold the hospital's reputation.

Dr. Duong Duc Hung stated that the second facility will provide examination and treatment for patients in the local area and surrounding regions. In the first phase, the hospital will operate at 30% capacity, with approximately 300 beds, to avoid waste and ensure operational efficiency. When the number of patients exceeds this limit, the hospital will add more beds.

The hospital is entering its final phase, and upon handover, there will be no difference in quality between the two facilities. This is a favorable condition for reducing the burden on the first facility.

The hospital has held meetings with the Ministry of Health to propose requesting some special mechanisms when it begins operation.

With the acquisition of the Agricultural Hospital system, Viet Duc Friendship Hospital will have additional facilities and expanded capacity to implement many advanced techniques.

"Currently, the number of patients needing spinal surgery is very large, with waiting lists up to two months long. We have encouraged our surgical team to operate even on Saturdays, but we still cannot meet the demand. If we have additional facilities, the primary benefit will be the patients, helping to shorten waiting times," Mr. Hung added.

The Director of Viet Duc Friendship Hospital affirmed that when the second facility becomes operational, the problem of patients sharing beds will be reduced, the quality of treatment will improve, and patient satisfaction will increase.

"Currently, patients are satisfied with the diagnosis and treatment, but not necessarily with the service itself. Having a second facility gives us more opportunities and conditions to strive for genuine patient satisfaction," said Dr. Duong Duc Hung.
