The program was attended by senior leaders from the Ministry of Health , along with Swedish academic and business partners such as the Karolinska Institute, Sophiahemmet University, AstraZeneca, Ericsson, and Getinge, as well as directors of Vietnamese hospitals, researchers, and agencies responsible for digital healthcare. The focus was on digital transformation in healthcare and sustainable operating room solutions, aiming towards feasible action plans.
This event is a key activity of the Swedish-Vietnamese Health Innovation Initiative, launched in 2024 to strengthen chronic disease management capacity, modernize digital health, and improve the quality of health services in Vietnam.
Sweden's expertise in health data systems, clinical quality improvement, and sustainable health technology will directly contribute to practical solutions for Vietnamese hospitals and health agencies. Sweden and Vietnam are writing a new chapter together in their health cooperation relationship, which has spanned more than half a century.
From iconic projects like the Vietnam-Sweden Uong Bi Hospital and the National Children's Hospital in the 1980s, to support for policy and healthcare system development in the 2000s and current research programs and doctoral exchanges, healthcare has always been central to the cooperation between the two countries. Currently, both nations are taking strong steps to address new challenges.
Ambassador Johan Ndisi shared that Sweden and Vietnam have built trust in the healthcare sector over decades. “Today, we are moving from shared history to shared innovation, combining Sweden’s expertise in digital healthcare and sustainable development with Vietnam’s aspiration to improve the quality of healthcare for all its people. This is a journey of turning ideas into action for a better life,” the Ambassador stated.

Sweden is internationally recognized for its advanced health data ecosystem and high-quality registries, which drive evidence-based improvements in treatment outcomes and healthcare system efficiency. These experiences are guiding bilateral cooperation on digital health, clinical decision support, and quality improvement in Vietnam.
Speaking at the conference, Ms. Pham Thi Minh Chau, Deputy Director of the International Cooperation Department, Ministry of Health, said that to move towards a modern, equitable, and sustainable healthcare system, Vietnam needs a comprehensive approach, in which the prevention and control of non-communicable diseases and the development of digital solutions will play a key role.
“I expect this event to be a forum for us to discuss in depth and learn valuable experiences from our Swedish counterparts on innovative solutions, from proactive prevention and continuous management of non-communicable diseases to building data infrastructure and deploying digital technology in healthcare. We also need to discuss effective public-private partnership agreements to mobilize social resources and improve health, ensuring that no one is left behind. From a policy perspective, Vietnam is committed to putting people at the center, using equity as a principle, quality as a measure, and innovation as a pillar. These are the four pillars for building a modern, integrated, and sustainable healthcare system,” said Ms. Pham Thi Minh Chau.

The cooperative relationship is further strengthened by the strategic partnership agreement in science, innovation, and digital transformation between Sweden and Vietnam, signed in June 2025. This agreement provides a solid foundation for data-driven healthcare, responsible application of health data, and the development of digital hospitals. It demonstrates a shared commitment to combining Sweden's advanced medical technology with Vietnam's vision of high-quality, accessible healthcare.
By creating a common forum for policymakers, clinicians, researchers, and businesses, the conference aims to foster substantive collaboration and strengthen the foundation for long-term reform. Expected outcomes include efficient and patient-centered care processes, enhanced application of health data to improve quality and equity, modernization of hospital infrastructure with higher levels of safety and productivity, and the development of sustainable partnerships aligned with Vietnam's national health priorities.
