With a perfect score of 10 in all three subjects Math, Physics and Chemistry, Nguyen Dieu Linh, class 12A1, Nguyen Trai High School, Hung Yen province (Vu Thu district, former Thai Binh province) has just excelled to become 1 of 8 top students in block A nationwide this year.
Sharing with reporters of VietnamPlus Online Newspaper, Linh said that although she did very well on the test and after the Ministry of Education and Training announced the answers, she estimated that she would get a perfect score but was still not sure because she was afraid of making mistakes while doing the test.
“At 8am this morning, when I checked my exam results with my sister, I burst into tears of happiness when I saw that I got 10 points in all three subjects. I immediately shared this joy with my mother first,” Dieu Linh said.
Sharing the secret to achieving the title of valedictorian, Linh said that in the last months before the exam, she paid special attention to practicing exam questions. Linh found sample exam questions from the Ministryof Education and Training, exam questions from departments and schools and did them herself. After each exam, she re-evaluated herself, found her strengths, weaknesses, and mistakes and did them over and over again to improve, master the method and knowledge better.
According to Linh, dividing study time scientifically is important when reviewing for exams to reduce pressure. She doesn’t study too much but still spends time going out and chatting with people to keep her spirit comfortable.
In the 3 subjects for university entrance exam, I focus and spend more time on the weakest subject, Chemistry, but at the same time still review the remaining two subjects, Math and Physics, so as not to forget the knowledge.
According to Linh, with the new general education program, the exam is longer with questions applied to real life instead of just purely numbers, equations, and mathematical formulas like before. Therefore, to get high scores, students need to have good reading comprehension and analysis skills to understand the questions thoroughly and avoid confusion.
“Doing many exercises helps me gain experience and correct mistakes after each time, thereby improving my skills,” Linh shared.

The female student also said another important secret is to study in groups. Linh's group has 4 friends. In addition to studying at school, the group studies together during breaks or in the evenings.
"Our houses are not close together, so the study location is sometimes a coffee shop. Each of us has different strengths, so we can learn from each other. Studying in groups also helps us to be more motivated and comfortable than studying alone," Linh said.
Linh said that her group of four friends all achieved quite good test results with scores of 25.5 or higher.
Besides, Dieu Linh believes that setting goals helps her have a clear purpose for studying, thereby creating motivation, determination and self-discipline to overcome difficulties.
“Since the beginning of grade 12, I have set a goal to enter the Foreign Trade University – the university with the highest admission score for the economics major. I am very happy because now I can achieve my dream. I am very grateful to my teachers and family!” Linh happily said.
Sharing about Dieu Linh, Ms. Dao Thi To Hoa, Principal of Nguyen Trai High School, said that Linh is a good and hard-working student with high self-discipline, self-awareness and self-training in studying. She is a member of the school's math team. In grade 12, Linh won third prize in the Thai Binh province's excellent student competition.
