(NLĐO) - After taking over its functions and duties, the Binh Thuan Provincial Police are consolidating drug addiction treatment facilities and plan to expand their scale to accommodate more than 1,000 trainees.
On the afternoon of February 27th, the Binh Thuan Provincial Police, in coordination with the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs, held a ceremony to hand over and receive the responsibility for state management of drug addiction treatment and post-rehabilitation management.
At the ceremony, the Binh Thuan Provincial Police announced the decisions of the Provincial Police Director regarding the transfer of 11 police officers to work at the Drug Addiction Treatment Facility under the Drug Crime Investigation Department.
The two sides signed an agreement to hand over the management responsibilities of the drug rehabilitation facility.
Prior to the merger, the Binh Thuan Provincial Drug Addiction Treatment Center had 46 staff members, including officials and contract workers, managing over 380 compulsory drug rehabilitation trainees.
Currently, the facility has completed an upgrade project to increase its infrastructure capacity to 630 students and can potentially increase the number of students to 650-700 students.
Eleven police officers from Binh Thuan province have been assigned to work at the drug addiction treatment facility.
To avoid impacting drug rehabilitation management and the lives of workers, the Binh Thuan Provincial Police will assign 13 permanent police officers, 10 conscripted soldiers, and 35 contract workers. Initially, the Provincial Police will sign labor contracts with 23 civil servants and contract workers who wish to remain and serve at the drug rehabilitation center alongside police officers to perform their duties.

Starting from March 1, 2025, the state management functions regarding drug addiction treatment and post-rehabilitation management will be transferred from the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs to the Binh Thuan Provincial Police Department.
Currently, the People's Committee of Binh Thuan province has approved a plan to build a new drug rehabilitation center in Thuan Minh commune, Ham Thuan Bac district, with an area of up to 190,000 m². This facility can accommodate up to 1,000 trainees, helping to expand the scale of treatment and reduce the pressure on the existing facility.
