On the morning of August 16th, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training held a conference to summarize the 2022-2023 school year and implement tasks for the 2023-2024 school year.
Mr. Tran The Cuong, Director of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, said that in the 2022-2023 school year, the entire sector had excellently completed all assigned tasks. The Hanoi Department of Education and Training was also selected as one of the 10 outstanding events of the capital city in 2022.
The positive transformation of Hanoi's education sector during the past school year was widespread across all levels of education, in both public and private schools.
The Director of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training also acknowledged some limitations and shortcomings. One of them is that the planning of the school network in some inner-city districts is not appropriate, leading to a shortage of public schools in some areas; some old schools have not been renovated or repaired in a timely manner, affecting the quality of teaching and learning in schools.
The effectiveness of student placement after lower and upper secondary education is still low. Enrollment at the beginning of each level faces many difficulties, with the number of students per class after enrollment being much higher than the regulations stipulated in the school charters at various levels in some areas. The effectiveness of applying information technology in management and administration remains modest.
Therefore, according to Mr. Cuong, one of the key tasks identified by the Hanoi Department of Education and Training for the 2023-2024 school year is to research, develop plans, and implement solutions to overcome the limitations and shortcomings of previous school years, especially in the examination and enrollment process at the beginning of the school year.
"During the past school year, some public schools handled online enrollment very well. However, some private schools still have limitations in online enrollment."
Therefore, starting from this school year, Hanoi City is determined to implement online enrollment for both public and private schools to ensure fairness, transparency, and avoid the inconvenience experienced in the past,” Mr. Cuong emphasized.
Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son suggested that in the new academic year 2023-2024, Hanoi should promote the application of information technology and digital transformation in education .
In particular, Hanoi's education sector needs to focus on "quality" in all aspects of teaching, learning, testing, and evaluation; ensuring infrastructure and equipment, information security; ensuring accurate, complete, and timely industry data to serve management; and improving the capacity of management staff and teachers.
“With the new school year approaching, there’s a lot to do, but I propose that in the enrollment process for primary and secondary schools, Hanoi put an end to the scene of parents queuing overnight to buy and submit application forms. In this digital age, with modern management, and the capital leading the country, such a situation is unacceptable. This phenomenon must definitely not happen next year. The Director of the Department of Education and Training is very determined, so I think it can certainly be achieved,” said Mr. Nguyen Kim Son.
