The Vietnam Expressway Investment and Development Corporation (VEC) has recently sent a document to the Vietnam Expressway Administration proposing the addition of electric charging stations at rest stops on expressways managed by VEC.

According to the report, VEC is currently assigned by the Prime Minister to operate services along the expressway and is designated by the Ministry of Transport as the investor for 5 expressway projects with 9 rest stops and 3 vehicle stops.
Regarding the 7 rest stops currently in operation, VEC leaders stated that at the time of investment and construction of these rest stops, there were no regulations requiring rest stops to have areas for installing electric charging stations and charging equipment.
Considering the current regulations, Circular No. 09/2024 of the Ministry of Transport requires rest stops to have areas for installing electric charging stations and charging equipment. Therefore, VEC proposes adding electric charging stations and supporting facilities to the list. It is expected that each rest stop will have a minimum of 30 charging positions on each side; a transformer station to serve the charging stations and infrastructure.
For the two rest stops that have not yet been constructed, VEC proposes updating the project's overall site plan and total investment cost to include electric charging stations and related facilities. For the three rest stops, VEC recommends updating the rest stop designs to include electric charging stations.
Currently, the Ministry of Transport has assigned VEC as the investor for 5 expressway projects including Noi Bai-Lao Cai, Cau Gie-Ninh Binh, Da Nang-Quang Ngai, Ho Chi Minh City-Long Thanh-Dau Giay, and Ben Luc-Long Thanh.
