In the letter, Minister Dao Hong Lan expressed her joy and pride when learning that on May 28, a team of highly qualified and experienced doctors, nurses, and technicians from Children's Hospital 1 and Tu Du Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City had closely coordinated to successfully perform the 9th fetal heart intervention.

Notably, this time the pregnant woman is a Singaporean carrying a 25-week-old fetus, weighing less than 600g but with a rare congenital defect, and was referred to Vietnam for intervention by Singaporean medical experts.

Fetal cardiac intervention is a new and complex technique that not only requires extensive professional knowledge and sophisticated techniques, but also places strict demands on multidisciplinary coordination, professional ethics and courage in making life-or-death decisions for two lives: mother and child.

Currently, this technique has only been successfully performed in a few countries in the world with specialized and developed medical systems. Notably, this case is a citizen from Singapore, a country with a developed medical system in the region.

"The fact that Vietnamese doctors have approached, mastered and successfully applied this technique is clear evidence of the increasingly strong endogenous capacity of the country's medicine," the Minister said in the letter.

According to the Minister, this is not only a technical achievement in medical expertise but also a success that touches profound human values, when very fragile lives on the border of survival have been held by the hands, minds, passion and intelligence of doctors like kind mothers.

This achievement not only brings hope to thousands of pregnant women and their families, but also opens up a new direction in diagnosing and treating complex diseases right from the fetal period - an important step forward for the Vietnamese medical industry to deeply integrate with world medicine.

"On behalf of the Ministry of Health's leadership, I acknowledge, commend and appreciate the efforts, breakthroughs and technical expertise development of the leaders, doctors, technicians, nurses and staff of Children's Hospital 1, Tu Du Hospital and the direction of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health," said the Minister.

According to the head of the health sector, the successful implementation of fetal cardiac intervention opens up many prospects for the development of high technology and specialized techniques in medical examination and treatment, building trust, image and international prestige for the country's health sector.

She also expressed her belief that the cadres, doctors, and medical staff will continue to promote the successful steps they have achieved, constantly study and research, improve their professional qualifications and skills; and promote medical ethics and the good qualities of Vietnamese physicians.

Along with that, continuing the aspiration to contribute and the power of Vietnamese knowledge in the new era, the era of the country's rise.

Previously, on May 28, fetal intervention specialists from Tu Du Hospital collaborated with pediatric cardiovascular intervention specialists from Children's Hospital 1 to successfully intervene in a case of complex congenital heart defect in a 25-week-old fetus of a Singaporean mother.
