Minister Nguyen Manh Hung received Professor Yann LeCun, Director of Artificial Intelligence Science , Vice President of Meta Group.

At the meeting, Minister Nguyen Manh Hung introduced an overview of strategies and policies related to semiconductors and AI development in Vietnam. Specifically, Vietnam has just issued a national strategy on the semiconductor industry and a national strategy on research, development and application of Artificial Intelligence drafted by the Ministry of Information and Communications , and has just passed the Telecommunications Law to promote the construction of data centers in Vietnam. The Ministry of Information and Communications of Vietnam has also announced that Vietnam's technology strategy is based on open source code and open technology, including the 5G network according to the OpenRAN standard, the Minister said.

In his sharing, Professor Yann LeCun stated that Vietnam will play an important role in the global AI ecosystem. That is because Vietnam has built a roadmap for the development of the semiconductor industry, creating conditions for Vietnam to become an important part of the global supply chain. Meta's open source large language model Llama (Meta AI) is currently widely used by Vietnamese and international enterprises. Combining the development of the semiconductor industry with data centers, software and AI applications will create huge changes for Vietnam in the future.

In particular, Professor LeCun also shared that the development trend of AI in the coming time will be based on exploiting data centers located in every country, combining open source solutions, which will help form AI models that understand the cultural and ethnic values of every country that no business has the capacity to invest in development on its own. Meta is leading the trend and focusing on researching new generation AI, emphasizing the importance of open source AI.

Sharing Vietnam's vision in developing AI, Minister Nguyen Manh Hung said that Vietnam is developing AI in the direction of becoming a virtual assistant for people. Each organization and company will create a private virtual assistant (private AI) for themselves and each Vietnamese person will also have their own virtual assistant because that person provides personal data and knowledge and trains AI for their own personal use.

At the end of the meeting, the Minister of Information and Communications expressed his hope that in the coming time, Meta will continue to cooperate extensively with Vietnamese enterprises to develop AI according to the direction just shared. Along with that, the Minister also asked Meta to promote the application of AI to clean up "junk" content on Facebook, especially on the online marketplace Marketplace.

A business that wants to do long-term business in a country should help that country develop. Meta needs to make big changes so that Vietnamese people do not only see Meta as a business coming here to do business, but as a friend, creating a healthy environment on Facebook for the common good of the community, the Minister expressed.
