A photo of Mbeumo went viral on social media, showing off his "oversized" midsection during a friendly against Everton. Criticism of Mbeumo increased immediately after the photo went viral.

One fan wrote: "£70m for a super-rounded striker?". Another commented: "Mbeumo has had a pretty good summer."

However, the British press claimed that this was just a cut and paste product. This assertion was quickly agreed by a section of fans.

"If Mbeumo looked like this, he would have been crossed out by Ruben Amorim, let alone on the pitch," one fan wrote. Another account commented: "Mbeumo looked very slim when he debuted for MU. Obviously that photo was doctored."
