"Postage costs continue to rise and further reforms are needed to protect universal postal services and help the business become more financially sustainable."
"The volume of mail has decreased from 20 billion per year in 2004/2005 to 6.7 billion in 2023/24 and could fall to 4 billion per year within the next four years," added Nick Landon.
In addition, Royal Mail also announced several other price changes, such as a 40-cent increase for international standard mail from £2.80 to £3.20.
