On May 25th, the People's Committee of Ca Mau province announced the issuance of a decision approving the plan for the development of the shrimp industry in Ca Mau province for the period 2021 to 2030 and with a vision to 2050.
Accordingly, Ca Mau aims to develop its shrimp industry into the largest center in the Mekong Delta and the entire country, with a suitable production model, applying advanced technology to improve productivity, output, quality, and competitiveness of Ca Mau shrimp products. At the same time, it aims to increase adaptability to climate change, protect the ecological environment, and bring benefits to people, businesses, the provincial economy , and the country.
Ca Mau leads the country in shrimp production.
In line with the development goals for the shrimp industry in Ca Mau province, the locality aims to achieve a total brackish water shrimp farming area of 280,000 hectares by 2025, including 5,000 hectares of super-intensive farming. Shrimp seed production will ensure quality, meeting over 70% of the province's farming needs; total shrimp production will reach 280,000 tons; and export value will reach 1.4 billion USD.
By 2030, the total area for stable brackish water shrimp farming is projected to reach 280,000 hectares; total shrimp production will reach 350,000 tons; and export revenue will reach US$1.65 billion. The total investment capital for shrimp industry development by 2030 is estimated at approximately VND 20,000 billion.
By 2050, Ca Mau province's shrimp industry aims for sustainable development, high productivity and quality, and a reputable brand in both domestic and international markets. Specifically, production will be strictly controlled at all stages; 100% of farmed shrimp products will be traceable to their origin; and the province will become a global and domestic shrimp processing center with export revenue exceeding US$6 billion per year.
Ca Mau province also outlined priority investment options and project groups to achieve the above objectives, including: infrastructure investment projects; shrimp industry development projects; and programs, plans, and projects to improve management capacity...
