Pepper exports in 11 months earned more than 1.5 billion USD

Pepper exports in November 2025 tended to decrease slightly compared to previous months, but overall export turnover in the first 11 months of the year still increased by more than 24% over the same period in 2024, bringing in more than 1.5 billion USD.

According to statistics from the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association (VPSA), in November 2025, Vietnam exported 18,582 tons of pepper of all kinds, including 16,322 tons of black pepper and 2,260 tons of white pepper. The total turnover reached 121.5 million USD. Compared to October, the export volume decreased by 4.4% and the turnover decreased by 6.2%; however, compared to the same period in 2024, exports still maintained an upward trend with an increase of 16.5% in volume and 14.2% in value. The average export price in November reached 6,519 USD/ton for black pepper and 8,072 USD/ton for white pepper, respectively, an increase of 1.2% for black pepper and a decrease of 3.8% for white pepper compared to the previous month.

By the end of November 2025, Vietnam had exported 225,009 tons of pepper, of which black pepper reached 192,899 tons and white pepper reached 32,110 tons. The total turnover exceeded 1.5 billion USD, with black pepper alone reaching nearly 1.25 billion USD and white pepper reaching more than 262 million USD. Although the export volume decreased by 4.4% compared to the same period in 2024, the turnover still increased sharply by 24.4% thanks to improved demand and export prices remaining at a high level. The average export price in 11 months reached 6,618 USD/ton for black pepper and 8,636 USD/ton for white pepper, up 1,767 USD and 2,175 USD respectively compared to the same period last year.

In terms of market, the United States continued to be the largest destination, accounting for 21.7% with 48,849 tons, although down 28% year-on-year. This was followed by the UAE with 8.9% with 19,930 tons, up 28.6%; China with 7.9% with 17,744 tons, up sharply by 83.7%; India with 5.2% with 11,750 tons, up 18%; and Germany with 4.8% with 10,876 tons, down 23.2%.

On the other hand, in November 2025, Vietnam imported 2,459 tons of pepper, worth 15.2 million USD, including 2,319 tons of black pepper and 140 tons of white pepper. Compared to October, the import volume increased significantly by 47.2%, but still decreased by 43.9% compared to November 2024. Notably, Cambodia emerged as the largest supplier in the month with 1,506 tons, accounting for 61.2%; followed by Brazil with 475 tons and Indonesia with 210 tons.

By the end of November 2025, Vietnam had imported a total of 40,242 tons of pepper, worth 252 million USD; including 34,545 tons of black pepper and 5,697 tons of white pepper. Compared to the same period in 2024, the import volume increased by 22% and the turnover increased by 62.3%, reflecting the trend of increasing raw material purchases for re-export and processing. In terms of supply structure, Brazil continued to lead with 18,956 tons, accounting for 47.1% and increasing by 10.6% over the same period; followed by Cambodia with 27.9% and 11,211 tons, a sharp increase of 65.5%; while Indonesia accounted for 17.8% with 7,156 tons, a sharp decrease of 49.3%.

Regarding prices, in the world market, data from the International Pepper Association (IPC) shows that pepper prices decreased in most major producing countries last week. Indonesia decreased by nearly 2% (equivalent to 141 USD/ton), to 6,995 USD/ton. The price of Brazilian black pepper ASTA 570 decreased slightly by 0.4% (25 USD/ton), to 6,150 USD/ton. Meanwhile, pepper prices in Malaysia recorded the sharpest decrease, up to 200 USD/ton, to 9,000 USD/ton. In Vietnam alone, the export price of black pepper remained stable at 6,500 - 6,700 USD/ton for 500 g/l and 550 g/l. The export price of white pepper remained at 12,000 USD/ton, unchanged from last week.

In the domestic market, pepper prices are currently fluctuating from 147,500 to 149,000 VND/kg, an increase of 500 VND/kg in most localities, except for Ho Chi Minh City where the price remains unchanged. However, overall over the past week, domestic pepper prices still decreased by 2,000 - 3,000 VND/kg compared to the previous week. Pepper prices in Gia Lai and Ho Chi Minh City have decreased by 2,500 - 3,000 VND/kg, currently trading at 147,500 VND/kg. Meanwhile, pepper prices in Dong Nai, Dak Lak and Lam Dong have all decreased by 2,000 VND/kg, commonly at 148,000 - 149,000 VND/kg.

In addition to pepper, the Vietnamese spice industry is also promoting the export of a number of other potential products such as cinnamon, star anise... With cinnamon, in November 2025, Vietnam exported 9,466 tons, with an export turnover of 23.1 million USD, compared to October, exports increased by 5.4% in volume and 9.3% in value. The leading export markets include India with 3,110 tons, up 26.5% over the previous month, followed by the United States with 1,227 tons, up 22.0% and Bangladesh with 1,053 tons, down 24%.

By the end of November 2025, Vietnam had exported 108,929 tons of cinnamon, with a total export turnover of 272.6 million USD, compared to the same period last year, the export volume increased by 20.7% and the turnover increased by 9.4%. Vietnam's leading cinnamon export markets include: India, the United States and Bangladesh. In addition to domestic raw materials, in 11 months, Vietnam also imported 4,028 tons of cinnamon from abroad, mainly from Indonesia with 2,903 tons and China about 410 tons.

Another spice that is increasingly exported is star anise. In November 2025, Vietnam exported 1,078 tons of star anise, earning 5.1 million USD, compared to October, the export volume increased by 53% and the turnover increased by 49%. By the end of November 2025, Vietnam had exported 12,976 tons of star anise, with a total export turnover of 53 million USD. Compared to the same period in 2024, the export volume increased by 5.5% but the turnover decreased by 8%. In terms of market, India is Vietnam's largest star anise export destination with an export volume of 9,195 tons, accounting for 71%, up 13.3% over the same period; the second is the United States with 886 tons, accounting for 6.8% of the market share and up 79% over the same period last year.
