In early February, Hoang Minh Duc, a freelance photographer, and his friends from Hanoi, not wanting to miss the plum blossom season, decided to travel to Moc Chau during the coldest, rainiest days. Minh Duc's group chose to camp in the plum orchards of Pa Phach and Phieng Canh villages.
Because homestays and hotels in Moc Chau are constantly fully booked on weekends, many young tourists choose camping. Minh Duc arrived in Moc Chau on the coldest day of the first cold spell of the year but didn't hesitate to bring his own camping gear and cook outdoors.
What could be better for camping enthusiasts than a steaming hotpot meal with friends under the canopy of blossoming white plum trees? Minh Duc recounts: "It's a little cold, a little lacking in amenities, but you can't fully experience this feeling in a homestay or hotel. Especially sitting under the plum trees eating hotpot."
"The locals are quite friendly; they don't charge for camping, only an entrance fee of about 30,000 VND per person to visit the garden," Minh Duc shared. Besides warm clothing, Minh Duc said that those who choose to camp overnight should also bring heat patches, air mattresses, sleeping bags, and especially windproof tents.
The 2025 plum blossom season is considered the most beautiful and popular ever in Moc Chau. While the plum blossoms bloom in a pristine, dreamy white during the day, at night, when viewed under the lights and firelight, they take on a different and unforgettable beauty.
Choosing to visit on rainy, cold, and foggy days at the beginning of the week allowed Minh Duc's group to experience the plum valley without many other visitors.
Minh Duc's group's campsite was nestled in a valley of blossoming plum trees. The early morning scene was shrouded in cold fog, yet it still evoked a sense of awe in visitors because of the beauty of the plum blossoms, which bloom only once a year.
Hmong children in Phieng Canh village, dressed in their traditional costumes, happily play and pose for photos with tourists.
Minh Duc and his friends' spring trip to see the plum blossoms in Moc Chau also included their dog, Chopper.
Even though the sun wasn't dazzling, the flowers weren't sparkling, everything was damp, and the sky was gray, this trip to Moc Chau was the most memorable for the male traveler.
According to the People's Committee of Moc Chau Town, it is estimated that in the first two months of 2025, Moc Chau will welcome nearly 1 million visitors, with estimated social revenue reaching 1,200 billion VND. Currently, from the end of February onwards, most plum orchards have finished blooming; instead, tourists can visit mustard flower gardens and experience picking early-season strawberries...
