TPO – Trung Phuong village, Duy Hai commune, Duy Xuyen district ( Quang Nam ) has suffered from serious landslides and erosion for many years. The waves have eaten deep into the mainland, swallowing many buildings and houses, leaving the coastline devastated and in disarray.

People are worried as the sea increasingly invades the mainland, 'swallowing' many houses.

Mr. Truong Cong Truc (68 years old) said that his house used to be in the middle of the village, but erosion caused the sea to move closer to his house.

The house next door to the son was destroyed by a storm and waves a few years ago. His wife and children went to the South to make a living.

The landslide damaged many houses and felled trees. Some households stayed because they could not agree on a relocation plan. If they moved to a new place with only 100 square meters of land and 20 million VND, they would not be able to build a house.

Every year, people gather together to dig sand, build embankments, and pile bamboo poles to block waves. Recently, a local resident has called for the construction of a solid embankment to block waves and protect property.
