However, thanks to the in-vitro fertilization (IVF) program for infertile military personnel, happiness finally smiled upon that small family.
On the morning of December 13th, the Hanoi Andrology and Infertility Hospital, in collaboration with the Military Broadcasting and Television Center, held a ceremony to announce and present decisions to support 10 in-vitro fertilization cases with 100% of the costs covered for infertile military personnel in 2025.
Happiness after a long and arduous nine-year journey.
Nearly 10 years ago, Lieutenant Colonel Lo Khac Quynh (born in 1990), working at the Military Prosecutor's Office - Military Region 2, married Ms. To Thi Tuyet (born in 1993). Their married life soon faced challenges as the nature of their military work meant they were often separated. The distance of over 400km between Mr. Quynh's unit and his family made reunions rare.
For many years, the couple remained childless despite seeking opportunities in many places.
A turning point came for the family when Mr. Quynh went through the application review process to become one of the 10 families eligible for financial assistance for IVF treatment under the program supporting infertile military personnel.
Trusting in this new opportunity, the couple applied and were fortunate enough to be selected. After examination, the couple was diagnosed with unexplained infertility and recommended to undergo IVF.
The IVF process went smoothly, and on the very first embryo transfer, what they had been waiting for for almost 9 years became a reality.
In November 2022, Lo Ngoc Minh Khue and Lo Minh Ngoc Khue were born, bringing to an end a long journey of waiting and hope. Their laughter brought warmth and joy to the small home of this military family in the highlands of Dien Bien .
Spreading love to couples struggling with infertility.
According to Dr. Pham Van Huong, Deputy Director of Professional Affairs at the Hanoi Andrology and Infertility Hospital, thousands of soldiers in the military still yearn to have children but face many obstacles, especially the cost of infertility treatment.
"By removing just one barrier, each family will have more motivation and determination to move forward," Dr. Huong shared.
Understanding the unique difficulties faced by military personnel, since 2021 the hospital has implemented a special support program with many benefits such as free examinations, consultations, ultrasounds, and semen analysis; a 20% reduction in the cost of clinical laboratory tests, etc.
In particular, many military families have received 100% financial support for IVF costs through a transparent and open application process.
In 2025, the program continued to receive significant attention, with numerous applications from military units nationwide submitted immediately after its announcement. The expert council carefully reviewed the applications to select 10 families to receive a 100% free IVF support package.
At the ceremony, many military couples could not hide their emotions as they shared their arduous journey to have children, a journey that seemed destined to end due to the financial burden. Among the families receiving support this time were some who were over 40 years old and had been struggling with infertility for more than 10 years.
Dr. Le Thi Thu Hien, Director of Professional Services at Hanoi Andrology and Infertility Hospital, said that after 5 years of participating in the program, 38 babies have been born thanks to the free IVF support packages.
"Every time we witness military couples holding their babies in their arms after years of waiting, it's the greatest motivation for our medical team to continue pursuing our mission of connecting love and nurturing happiness," Dr. Hien shared.
