A bowl of warm porridge
Every Sunday morning, at Hai Duong General Hospital, pots of porridge are cooked by members of Thien Nhan Tam Club to be delivered to poor patients and their relatives.
Established in 2014, the club's "Charity Porridge Pot" model not only provides free nutritious meals but is also a symbol of care and sharing. On average, each year, the club organizes about 54 porridge distribution sessions, giving away more than 40,000 portions, with a total value of about 380 million VND. Those bowls of charity porridge help patients reduce some of their financial burden and are a valuable source of spiritual encouragement for them to overcome the difficulties of illness.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Huong, from Tu Ky commune, who is being treated at Hai Duong General Hospital, emotionally said: “During the days in the hospital, receiving a bowl of hot porridge from the volunteers, I felt very warm. It was not only the food but also the heart and care of the community for people like us.”
“The free porridge helps us save some money. Most of all, I feel the humanity and the sharing between people in difficult and sick circumstances. That is truly precious,” said Le Van Minh, from Gia Loc commune, a relative of a patient being treated at Hai Duong General Hospital.
Not only is it a regular charity activity, the program also attracts many organizations, individuals, and philanthropists at home and abroad to join, contributing efforts, materials, and funds to maintain the warm human porridge kitchen for more than a decade.
Diverse charitable activities
Not stopping at charity porridge, Thien Nhan Tam Club of Cuong Xa Pagoda also implements many programs towards the community such as giving gifts to the elderly, poor students, supporting the scholarship fund, free medical examination and treatment, building charity houses, disaster relief and participating in cultural and social events of humanitarian significance.
On October 15, the club went directly to Thai Nguyen province to give 100 gifts to households that suffered heavy damage due to storms and floods, including 10 households with special difficulties who received additional support. The total value of the program was about 118 million VND, contributed by monks, Buddhists, and philanthropists from all over the country.
Previously, on September 20, the club presented 5 laptop sets worth 50 million VND to officers and soldiers of Radar Regiment 151, Naval Region 1, expressing gratitude and looking towards the homeland's sea and islands.

In the past 5 years alone, the total value of the club's charitable activities has reached nearly 5 billion VND. During the Covid-19 pandemic, despite many difficulties, the club still maintained many practical support programs such as giving gifts to people in quarantine areas, supporting affected workers, and sponsoring medical supplies for epidemic prevention work. When the epidemic was under control, charitable activities were quickly restored and expanded.
Taking the leading and inspiring role in these charitable activities is Venerable Thich Thanh Cuong, Chairman of Thien Nhan Tam Club of Cuong Xa Pagoda, Vice President of UNESCO Vietnam Association, Head of Advisory Board of Hai Phong Tourism Association.

With the wish that "serving sentient beings is making offerings to Buddhas", the Venerable devotes much of his heart to charity work, connecting hundreds of kind hearts to join hands for the community.
Venerable Thich Thanh Cuong said: “Charity is not only about giving material things but also about sowing good karma, spreading kindness and humanity. I hope that every action, no matter how small but practical, will contribute to bringing joy to those in difficult circumstances.”
According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Le Chi, Chairwoman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Hai Duong ward, Venerable Thich Thanh Cuong is a shining example of enthusiasm and social responsibility.
After more than 10 years of establishment and development, Thien Nhan Tam Club of Cuong Xa Pagoda has become one of the bright spots of the volunteer movement in Hai Phong and neighboring provinces. Each porridge portion and each gift sent demonstrates the spirit of "helping each other", at the same time sowing the seeds of love and spreading the message of living humanely in society.
With a spirit of perseverance, dedication and systematic organization, the club has built a "charity brand" with far-reaching influence. In the coming time, the unit aims to expand the network of charity, connecting businesses, philanthropists and young monks and nuns to join in charity programs, aiming to improve the quality of life and educate the younger generation about the spirit of sharing and responsibility to the community.
