In Khanh Hoa, a 7-year-old girl was brought to the hospital by her family with abdominal pain and a needle lodged in her urethra.
On May 16th, the leadership of Khanh Hoa Provincial General Hospital announced that ultrasound and CT scan results showed a 5 cm long needle, with a round button at one end (the type of needle used to secure fabric when sewing) and a sharp end, had pierced the child's bladder wall.
The family said the child was at home with her grandmother and recounted that a stranger came, gave her candy, and then inserted a needle into her private parts. The family did not know who the stranger was or how the incident occurred, only realizing what had happened when the child experienced stomach pain and took her to the hospital.
The needle was removed from the child's urethra by the doctor. Photo: Provided by the hospital.
Doctors performed endoscopic surgery through the urethra into the bladder to remove the foreign object from the child. Currently, the girl's health is stable and she is preparing to be discharged from the hospital.
Dr. Ton That Minh Thuyet, from the General Surgery Department of Khanh Hoa Provincial General Hospital, said that if the child had arrived at the hospital later, the needle would have pierced the intestine, causing infection.
Doctors advise parents to teach children how to protect themselves and refuse contact with strangers. If a child shows any unusual health symptoms, they should be taken to a medical facility for examination.
