Work Director Jang Jae Hyun's film has attracted a large audience since its domestic release on March 15th. In particular, the character Oni has drawn attention due to his unusually large stature and mysterious powers.

According to Naver , the filmmakers wanted to minimize special effects to create a sense of realism. The casting team selected actors with exceptional height, including former South Korean basketball player Kim Byung Oh, one of the tallest people in the country.
Kim Byung Oh, 34, is the second tallest basketball player in South Korea, after Ha Seung Jin (2.21 m). He started playing basketball in high school and later joined Chung Ang University's team. In his fourth year, Byung Oh suffered an injury that prevented him from participating in the Korean Basketball League's rookie tryouts. He tried again a year later but was unsuccessful.

On Soompi , Kim Byung Oh expressed his surprise at receiving the offer to appear in the film. According to Byung Oh, it took him six hours to get his makeup done and another two hours to remove it. "I wondered why they needed me when they already had CGI effects. However, all my worries disappeared when I saw the result. Everything came to life," the player said.
Kim Byung Oh is not naturally gifted at acting. Therefore, he only plays the character in scenes where he moves in the dark. The director hired actor Kim Min Jun to portray the evil spirit's facial expressions, and Japanese artist Rikiya Koyama provided the voiceover. Besides Oni, the fireballs appearing with the Japanese ghost in the latter half of the film are not special effects but were created by the production design team, according to Kbizoom .
In Exhuma: Exhuming the Demonic Tomb , Oni was a Japanese general who ruled a remote mountainous region near the Korean border from 1592 to 1598. He claimed this territory as his own. When the Japanese withdrew, a sorcerer transformed Oni's corpse into one of the protective stakes.

Exhuma: The Ghostly Tomb Excavation created a huge impact, becoming a top trending keyword on social media thanks to its exploration of the supernatural genre and the harmonious performances of its star-studded cast. The film begins when two exorcists, Rim (Kim Go Eun) and Bong Gil (Lee Do Hyun), team up with feng shui master Kim Sang Deok (Choi Min Sik) and funeral expert Yong Geun (Yoo Hae Jin) to excavate an ancient tomb. Besides the horror story, the film incorporates elements of mystery and intertwines historical events, including the Japanese occupation of the Korean Peninsula in the early 20th century.
Despite its compelling plot, the film suffers from numerous script flaws and a rushed ending.

According to Box Office Vietnam , on the evening of March 24th, the film reached 160 billion VND after 10 days of release in Vietnam. The film surpassed "The Devil's Dog " – a Vietnamese film released in December 2023 – to become the highest-grossing horror film in the domestic market. With the current ticket sales momentum, "The Grave Robber" is predicted to be the highest-grossing Korean film of all time in Vietnam – breaking the record of "Suddenly Winning the Lottery" (released in 2022, grossing 181 billion VND).
