'Good quality nursing will take good care of patients'

Every year, International Nurses Day is celebrated around the world to recognize the valuable contributions of nurses to maintaining, improving and ensuring public health.

In 2024, Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital (HCM City University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital - UMC) diversified the anniversary program with meaningful activities such as: "Inner Space" for staff in the Nursing Management Department, poster exhibition displaying outstanding ideas, innovative initiatives in nursing care and the anniversary ceremony organized by the hospital in collaboration with the Vietnam Chief Nurses Club.

In reality, good quality nursing will take good care of patients, improve treatment outcomes and reduce medical costs, so investing in nursing is necessary. We need to strengthen specialized training at domestic and international facilities; invest in nursing management and build appropriate development and reward policies; focus on developing scientific research, initiatives and improvements to develop a standardized and synchronous nursing system. The Board of Directors will always care and create the best working environment for UMC nurses to contribute to the development of Vietnamese nursing."

With the development orientation of the hospital's board of directors, I hope that UMC nursing will continue to be invested in, develop scientific research, provide in-depth specialized training in nursing, improve nursing management capacity, and be the leading medical facility in the country in nursing work".

Over the years, the UMC Nursing team has had many outstanding activities in expertise, training, scientific research and administration, demonstrating the pioneering role of a model practice hospital of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Ho Chi Minh City. According to MSc. Nguyen Thi Hong Minh, Head of the Hospital Nursing Department, the hospital has built and developed a patient care system management model with more than 500 digitized processes, data-driven nursing work, and visual monitoring indicators that are continuously updated when new evidence arises. The hospital has applied the NANDA-NIC-NOC catalog to nursing care; integrated tools to identify and predict priority interventions by standardizing the nursing medical record system; applied a multi-modal model in human resource management and pioneered in building the "UMC Nursing" standard, managing work based on 7 competency levels...
