High Revenue

If the appointment of Enzo Maresca last season created an earthquake at Chelsea with a series of names being pushed out of the squad, then the summer of 2025 is continuing in a not very different way.

In order to continue spending heavily – a policy maintained since Todd Boehly took over in 2022 with more than €1.6 billion invested – Chelsea were forced to sell.

It is the high price they pay for players that is one of the reasons they meet the Premier League's Profitability and Sustainability Regulations, although many remain skeptical.

It's true that Chelsea have signed more than 50 players in the last seven transfer windows (and counting), but they're also very good at selling those who are no longer suitable or who receive attractive offers.

The case of Kai Havertz leaving Chelsea for Arsenal for 75 million euros is a typical example.

In the 2023/24 season, The Blues earned more than 280 million euros from player sales . The 2024/25 season just ended also brought in 239 million euros. This summer, everything continues to go smoothly.

Up to now, names like Kepa (to Arsenal), Djordje Petrovic (Bournemouth), Madueke (Arsenal) or Joao Felix (Al Nassr) have helped the team earn 120.7 million euros.

Added to that are lesser-known deals like Bashir Humphreys (to Burnley for 14 million euros) or Mathis Amougou (Strasbourg; 1 4.5 million).

In total, Chelsea earned 156.1m (excluding future add-ons) and that figure is set to rise. Last season, player sales revenue was €239m, while in 2023/24 it is €282.2m.

In the summer of 2025, only Bayer Leverkusen will collect more (205.5 million euros), after selling the most important players.

Public goods purification

If there is one area Chelsea need to clean up, it is the attack. With new signing Jamie Bynoe-Gittens and several players not called up to the US for the FIFA Club World Cup despite still having contracts, Enzo Maresca has… 17 strikers!

Among these, names like Christopher Nkunku, Raheem Sterling or Armando Broja (preparing to move to Burnley) are all put on the transfer list.

Liam Delap and Joao Pedro – two new signings – both impressed at the Club World Cup with the future looking promising.

Pedro Neto is a key player, while new signing Estevao is also likely to have a place at Stamford Bridge.

Meanwhile, Marc Guiu reached an agreement to move to Sunderland on loan because he no longer has a place.

Nicolas Jackson – who was the official “number 9” in Enzo Maresca ’s first season – has now lost his place after two disastrous red cards and has been pushed out of the tactical rotation. Chelsea are selling him.

For Sterling, David Datro Fofana or Deivid Washington – who are no longer in the plan – leaving Chelsea is just a matter of time.

These guys have to go so Chelsea can pick up Xavi Simons and Alejandro Garnacho.

Mass "clearance sale"

In addition, the remaining lines are also preparing to witness many changes. In defense, Marcus Bettinelli (to Man City) and Lucas Bergstrom (Mallorca) have left, and Gaga Slonina is also preparing to follow.

Names like Axel Disasi, Benoit Badiashile, Caleb Wiley and Ben Chilwell all have no future at the team.

Recently, Chelsea also reached an agreement on a 7-year contract with Jorrel Hato (Ajax) to add a central defender.

Renato Veiga – who played for Juventus on loan – is valued at 40 million euros and could move to Atletico Madrid . Mamadou Sarr or Aaron Anselmino could be loaned out due to overload.

Meanwhile, new signings Andrey Santos and Dario Essugo are likely to stay on as rotation options for Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez.

However, Chukwuemeka, Lesley Ugochukwu and Dewsbury-Hall are likely to leave the team.

Chelsea have more than 40 players in their squad ahead of pre-season, but 15 of them could be out of the Cobham training base by the time the 2025/26 Premier League season begins.

This not only helps Enzo Maresca build the squad as he wants, but also brings in large revenues for the club.

Despite the difficult cases like Mykhailo Mudryk, Todd Boehly's huge investment is starting to show results, both on the pitch with two recent international titles, and in terms of revenue.
