According to the 2024 crop plan, Thanh Hoa will cultivate 152 thousand hectares, including nearly 113 thousand hectares of rice. To increase production value per unit area, the agricultural sector builds a rice variety structure according to market demand.
Currently, the province has about 20 enterprises producing and trading rice seeds and distributing them through a system of hundreds of agents and cooperatives. From May 20 to June 20, 2024, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Thanh Hoa province organized an interdisciplinary inspection team to control and collect samples to check seed sources at production, trading and seed supply units, preventing crop failure due to seed quality.

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Toan, Deputy Chief Inspector, Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Thanh Hoa said: " To ensure the State management of plant varieties, the Department has strengthened inspection, examination and prevention of violations. At the same time, it recommends that people choose good quality plant varieties, which are listed for circulation in Vietnam, in accordance with the province's structure".
According to the direction of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Thanh Hoa province, localities need to continue to expand the area of early-season rice cultivation; select varieties with high yield, resistance and good quality to continue to structure the main varieties, limiting the structure of 3-line hybrid rice varieties. At the same time, each district should only structure 5-6 main varieties, each commune from 2-3 varieties to effectively implement intensive management measures, water regulation and pest management. Strive for the 2024 crop, the total production value will reach over 9,000 billion VND, an increase of more than 15.3 billion VND over the same period.
