On the evening of October 18th, Mr. Vo Van Minh, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee and Chairman of the People's Council of Ho Chi Minh City, received Hungarian Parliament Speaker Kover Laszlo, who had just arrived in the city to begin an official visit to Vietnam at the invitation of National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man.
During the meeting, the Chairman of the People's Council of Ho Chi Minh City expressed his pleasure in welcoming the Speaker of the Hungarian Parliament, Kover Laszlo, to Vietnam and the city at a time when the two countries are celebrating the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations (February 3, 1950 - February 3, 2025).
The relationship between Vietnam and Hungary is becoming increasingly close and strong, as evidenced by the fact that Vietnam had the honor of welcoming two high-level Hungarian delegations in a short period of time. Prior to this was the official visit to Vietnam by Hungarian President Sulyok Tamas and his wife at the end of May 2025.
Mr. Vo Van Minh stated that Ho Chi Minh City has recently merged with Binh Duong and Ba Ria-Vung Tau provinces to form a "megacity" with a population of over 14 million people and an area of over 6,700 square kilometers. Currently, the city contributes approximately one-third of the national budget and its economic scale accounts for about one-quarter of the country's total.
The Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council emphasized that after the merger, the city is striving to leverage its advantages to develop more strongly and sustainably in the future, especially in areas such as: marine economy, tourism, oil and gas-related industries, seaports, and high-tech industries...
In particular, Ho Chi Minh City is promoting the construction of the Vietnam International Finance Center within the city.
According to Mr. Vo Van Minh, in 2015, Ho Chi Minh City had a friendly cooperation with Budapest, the capital of Hungary. Looking ahead, the city hopes to attract more Hungarian businesses to invest and develop production and business activities in the city; and to strengthen friendly cooperation and people-to-people diplomacy between the city and localities in Hungary.

Hungarian Parliament Speaker Kover Laszlo thanked the leaders of Ho Chi Minh City for their warm welcome to the delegation and expressed his pleasure at visiting and witnessing Vietnam's remarkable development today.
The Speaker of the Hungarian Parliament stated that compared to 10 years ago (his last visit to Vietnam), Ho Chi Minh City has developed remarkably in all aspects.
Speaker of the Hungarian Parliament Kover Laszlo stated that Hungary always encourages businesses to seek investment opportunities in Vietnam in general and Ho Chi Minh City in particular, and hopes that Ho Chi Minh City will continue to pay attention to and create favorable conditions for Hungarian businesses to cooperate, conduct business, and strengthen friendly cooperation with Hungarian localities.
Earlier, the delegation led by the Speaker of the Hungarian Parliament visited the stupa commemorating the Hungarian scholar and Orientalist Sandor Korosi Csoma in Vung Tau ward.
