(CLO) Following the destruction of Ve Pagoda by fire, on the afternoon of February 10th, the Department of Cultural Heritage requested the Bac Giang Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism to cooperate in immediately implementing measures to protect the site, assess the damage, and propose immediate solutions.

On the morning of February 10th, Vẽ Pagoda, a 300-year-old temple located in Thọ Xương ward, Bắc Giang city (Bắc Giang province), unexpectedly caught fire; the front hall and the rear hall were completely destroyed. The fire caused no casualties, and local authorities are currently assessing the damage, particularly the number of ancient artifacts stored in the pagoda.

Responding to the press, a representative from the Department of Cultural Heritage, Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MOCST), stated that the Department had sent a document to the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Bac Giang province, requesting the Department to direct relevant agencies to coordinate with local authorities to urgently inspect the actual condition of the relic site, immediately take protective measures, assess the extent of damage, and propose solutions, reporting to the People's Committee of Bac Giang province and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism before 10:00 AM on February 11th.

Vẽ Pagoda is an ancient temple with multifaceted cultural, architectural, and sculptural value, featuring an "inner courtyard, outer country" architectural style. The temple's worship system belongs to the Northern Linji school of Buddhism. The exquisitely carved Buddha statues, despite nearly 300 years of history, still retain their magnificent gilded and lacquered appearance.

Each statue in the temple is a unique work of art, bearing the distinct mark of the 17th century and preserved intact to this day. Inside the temple is a large bell cast during the reign of Emperor Le Canh Hung, with a beautiful design, clear sound, 1.5m high, and 66cm in diameter.

With its immense historical, cultural, architectural, and artistic value, Vẽ Pagoda was granted the status of a National Historical and Cultural Monument on February 12, 1994.

The fire at Vẽ Pagoda occurred in the early hours of this morning, February 10th. At 1:15 AM, the Fire Prevention and Rescue Police Department of Bac Giang province received a fire report and immediately dispatched 4 fire trucks and 30 officers and soldiers to the scene, coordinating with the Bac Giang City Police to organize firefighting and rescue operations.

By approximately 1:35 AM the same day, the fire was largely under control. Because the fire occurred in the early morning and was discovered late, it only destroyed the front hall and the rear hall. The fire did not cause any casualties.
