At the meeting, Ms. Tran Thi Dieu Thuy, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City, reported on the preparations for organizing the 50th anniversary celebration of the Liberation of Southern Vietnam and the reunification of the country.

This is a particularly important and significant event, on a national scale, organized closely in coordination by the Central Committee, the National Assembly , the President, the Government, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, and the Party Committee and government of Ho Chi Minh City.

The meeting was chaired by members of the Politburo: Nguyen Trong Nghia – Secretary of the Central Committee of the Party, Head of the Central Propaganda Department, and Deputy Head of the Standing Committee of the Central Steering Committee; General Phan Van Giang – Deputy Secretary of the Central Military Commission and Minister of National Defense ; and Mr. Nguyen Van Nen – Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee.

To prepare for this momentous anniversary celebration, the Central Steering Committee assigned 15 tasks to ministries, agencies, and Ho Chi Minh City, with Ho Chi Minh City directly leading 8 of them.
According to Ms. Tran Thi Dieu Thuy, the central government's requirements for organizing the 50th anniversary celebration of the Liberation of Southern Vietnam and the reunification of the country must highlight the central purpose and significance; it must be both a tribute, have high propaganda and educational value in terms of political ideology; and it must be innovative, attractive, and moving, spreading patriotism and national pride.
The commemoration must be practical, safe, economical, and people-oriented, so that people can enjoy the spiritual values and the significance of this particularly important event for the city and the country.
At the meeting, Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Nghia – Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army; Lieutenant General Tran Quoc To – Member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Deputy Minister of Public Security; and Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Van Hung offered suggestions and proposed solutions to improve coordination between ministries, agencies, and Ho Chi Minh City. The focus was on organizing the 50th anniversary celebration of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification (April 30, 1975 – April 30, 2025) in a practical, safe, and economical manner, ensuring that the people could enjoy the highest cultural and spiritual values during the event.

On behalf of the Politburo members chairing the working session, Head of the Central Propaganda Department - Nguyen Trong Nghia recalled the experience of organizing historical events of the country, including the 70th Anniversary of the historic Dien Bien Phu victory. The thoughtful and solemnly organized events have left a very deep impression on the people at home, our overseas Vietnamese and international friends.
At the same time, Mr. Nghia also suggested that Ho Chi Minh City refer to the organization of celebrations in countries around the world, including Russia, to gain the best experience in preparing for the 50th Anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day.
Regarding each specific task and responsibility of the Ministries, sectors, and Ho Chi Minh City, the Head of the Central Propaganda Department requested that the plans for organizing the anniversary celebration, as well as the scripts and programs of each agency and unit, be completed soon for submission to the Central Committee for feedback and further refinement.
In particular, the celebration takes place against the backdrop of the Party and State's highest determination to streamline the administrative apparatus and reduce the workforce from the central to local levels. Therefore, each ministry, sector, and Ho Chi Minh City must maximize its responsibility and determination to meticulously prepare for the important celebration next year.
