This is also a meaningful activity to commemorate Vietnamese Family Day on June 28th, aiming to honor the values of family.
Speaking at the program, the President of the Hanoi Women's Union, Le Kim Anh, emphasized that the family is the basic unit of society, a crucial environment for nurturing and educating human character; a place to preserve, cultivate, and promote the precious traditional values of the nation.
Children are the happiness of the family and the future of the country. Children have the right to live, the right to be protected, cared for, and nurtured, the right to education and learning, the right to play to develop comprehensively, and the right to live in the love and care of their family, community, and society.

In response to the extremely complex developments of the Covid-19 pandemic, which affected every family and children's education, in September 2021, following the directives of the Presidium of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Women's Union and the Hanoi City Party Committee, the Hanoi Women's Union launched the programs "Accompanying Children" and "Godmother".
The program aims to promote the role, responsibility, and love of all levels of the Women's Union, officials, members, women, grandmothers, mothers, sisters, families, and communities in protecting, caring for, and educating children; accompanying and supporting them in their studies and lives, especially implementing activities to connect "Godmothers," supporting orphaned children with particularly difficult circumstances, and orphans due to COVID-19 in the city.
With that humanitarian significance, over the past three years, the "Godmother" program implemented by the Ho Chi Minh City Women's Union has achieved positive results, with strong support and love from all levels of the Union, female officials and members, many organizations and individuals, especially the attention, guidance and support from Party committees and authorities at all levels. 1,277 orphaned children in difficult circumstances, including those orphaned due to Covid-19, have received sponsorship with monthly financial support ranging from 500,000 to 1 million VND. The total amount of money donated and committed to support is 9.85 billion VND.

There are 413 organizations and individuals who have become second mothers to the children, including 224 godmothers who are officials, members, and organizations of the Association; 163 godmothers who are organizations, businesses, and philanthropists; and 26 godfathers.
"Despite the hardships and difficulties in their lives, these women, with their kind hearts—a very beautiful quality of Vietnamese women, and the tradition of loving others as oneself—are ready to share and sponsor not just one child, but many children," the President of the Ho Chi Minh City Women's Union emphasized.
With encouragement from their families and "Godmothers," many children have strived to achieve good academic results. In particular, 12 children won prizes in school, cluster, district, and city-level competitions in History, Chemistry, Literature, English, and sports – one child even won a gold medal in Taekwondo at the city level.

Within the framework of the program, the Ho Chi Minh City Women's Union organized many activities to help the children meet, interact, and bond with each other and with their "Godmothers"; to have new experiences, acquire additional skills, receive career guidance, and share their feelings and dreams.
At the same time, the Ho Chi Minh City Women's Union also commended and honored 35 collectives and individuals who have made great efforts in the 3 years of implementing the "Godmother" program; presented gifts and organized for 100 sponsored children to experience being artisans in Bat Trang pottery village, and visited the Center for the Quintessence of Vietnamese Craft Villages to further inspire and motivate them on their future path.
