
Associate Professor, People's Teacher Hoang Cuong was born in 1944 in Hue. He studied at the Maxim Gorku School and the Carl Maria von Weber Conservatory (Dresden, Germany), the Tchaikovsky Conservatory (Moscow, Russia), and the F. Chopin Conservatory (Warszawa, Poland). After many years of formal training, Mr. Hoang Cuong returned to Vietnam to teach music . He was a violin lecturer at the Vietnam School of Music (the predecessor of the Vietnam National Academy of Music today) from 1965 to 1978. In 1978, he began teaching at the Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory of Music. He held positions such as Deputy Head of the String Department, Head of the Symphony Instruments Department, Deputy Director, and Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory of Music from 2000 to 2006.
Throughout his career, Associate Professor and People's Artist Hoang Cuong is considered one of the most prolific and high-quality composers of instrumental music in Vietnam. His works have been performed in numerous major classical art programs both domestically and internationally, including notable pieces such as: "Evening Glow" (for violin and piano), "Four-Painting " (for string quartet), "Memories of the River " (suite for string orchestra), "First Day of Spring " (10 variations for string trio), "Song of May" (chorus and orchestra), " Spring of the Century " (symphony orchestra), "Full Moon Night Dance" (piano duet)... along with over 40 songs accompanied by piano or orchestra. He also has songs written for young people, including " January - Spring," a blend of chamber and pop music, which was featured in the 2013 Vietnamese Song program.
Associate Professor, People's Artist Hoang Cuong has had the honor of receiving many prestigious music awards throughout his compositional career, most notably 12 Instrumental Music awards presented by the Vietnam Musicians Association. In 2017, he was honored to receive the State Award for a collection of 5 instrumental works: Memories of the River, Waterfall, Song of May, Drum of the Citadel, and Quintett.
In the "Author's Night" program – Associate Professor, People's Artist Hoang Cuong, classical music lovers will enjoy works such as the Ouverture "Spring of the Century," the three-movement piano concerto Klavierkonzert, and the Symphony of Reincarnation, performed by conductor – Meritorious Artist Tran Vuong Thach, pianist Nguyen Bich Tra, violinists Le Tri Toan, Hoang Linh Chi, Hoang Tuan Cuong… along with the Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory Symphony Orchestra.
