Speaking to a VNA reporter about this visit, the President of the 78th Session of the United Nations General Assembly, Dennis Francis, remarked that the relationship between the United Nations and Vietnam will be strengthened and enhanced following the participation of General Secretary and President To Lam. This not only demonstrates Vietnam's commitment at the highest level but also affirms the nation's active role in promoting the core values of the United Nations.
At the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly, important topics such as human rights, health, education, and sustainable development were discussed – areas that Vietnam has always prioritized and committed to. Vietnam's contributions, from sending peacekeeping personnel to South Sudan to participating in important UN committees such as the Human Rights Council, not only contribute to the goal of global peacekeeping but also affirm Vietnam's responsible and proactive role.
Vietnam's role at the Future Summit
The Summit on the Future is a special event, opening up opportunities for international leaders to work together to build international institutions adapted to the 21st century. The UN Resident Coordinator in Vietnam, Ms. Pauline Tamesis, stated that the world is facing challenges that the current international system cannot address, from climate change to the development of new technologies such as artificial intelligence. The conference aims to reform outdated structures and build a new, more comprehensive and effective global governance framework.

"Vietnam's participation in this Summit is crucial. As a middle-income country, Vietnam has a distinct interest in reshaping the global financial structure to ensure affordable access to financing for sustainable development."
Vietnam also contributed its voice and leadership role to important discussions on climate change – a timely reminder of the vulnerability of a developing country to climate change, especially right after Typhoon Yagi caused immense damage to the most vulnerable populations.
By actively participating, Vietnam can advocate for reforms that prioritize developing countries and contribute to building more inclusive and responsive international institutions.
The summit also provides Vietnam with a platform to cooperate with global leaders, ensuring the resolution of perspectives and challenges in pursuit of a more equitable and sustainable future. The summit is a crucial opportunity for Vietnam to lead and contribute to global dialogues and follow-up actions,” said Pauline Tamesis.
Vietnam's strong commitment to the global future.
In a pre-recorded speech at the Summit on the Future, General Secretary and President To Lam emphasized that "this historic summit will bring new thinking and new approaches to the future of the world."
He also argued that "this presents a great opportunity for the United Nations and multilateralism to reaffirm their irreplaceable values in the face of the immense challenges of our time."
He stated that "transformation must begin with advances in science, technology, and innovation" and that "the United Nations must take the lead in establishing a legal framework for sharing information and supporting countries in developing disruptive technologies securely and safely."
General Secretary and President To Lam proposed "establishing a global green technology platform where ASEAN and other regional organizations can share experiences and promote the development of green technologies." With Vietnam's positive contributions at the Summit and joint efforts to strengthen international peace, cooperation, and solidarity to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, the UN Resident Coordinator in Vietnam expressed confidence that together, "we can achieve the Summit's goals and build a solid foundation for the future."
