Teacher "turns" to natural cosmetics business

Phunuvietnam.vn had a conversation with Ms. Nguyen Thi Tra My about her startup story:

+ Could you please share your entrepreneurial journey, especially the "story" that brought you to today's success?

During my years as a teacher, with a strong passion for herbs since childhood, I often learned about folk remedies and natural beauty methods that my grandmothers and mothers often used. I realized that there are many precious and safe ingredients around us but they have not been exploited and developed properly.

In addition, the market at that time appeared more and more personal care products of unknown origin, containing many toxic chemicals, causing concern for consumers. These concerns inspired me to nurture the idea of ​​creating a Vietnamese natural cosmetics brand, using safe and effective indigenous raw materials.

Ms. My always wonders how to preserve traditional values ​​while modernizing them to suit today's lifestyle.

The idea of ​​Myy Nature grew in me, as a combination of love for nature, the desire to preserve traditional values ​​and the desire to bring good products to the community. From the first batches of experimental products in a small kitchen, to when Myy Nature gradually took shape and developed as it is today, it was a journey full of enthusiasm and passion.

What motivates me to commit is not only the desire to make clean products, but also the desire to give back value to the community: Helping millions of Vietnamese women to be confident, radiant and healthy in the most benign way. I also always wonder how to preserve traditional values, while modernizing them to suit today's lifestyle.

Starting a business with herbs is not easy, but each positive feedback from customers, from a mother with less inflammation and itching, from a young person with more confidence with healthy hair, is the motivation for me to persevere on the path I have chosen.

+ What was the most memorable difficulty or challenge for you? What helped you keep the faith to continue?

In the journey of building Myy Nature, I have faced many memorable difficulties and challenges. Perhaps, the initial stage was the most difficult.

About knowledge and experience: As a teacher, I was almost a blank sheet of paper in the field of cosmetics business and production. I had to learn everything on my own, from formula research, finding safe raw materials, to legal issues, marketing and management. There were times when I felt overwhelmed and confused because of the large amount of new knowledge.

Originally an English teacher, Ms. Nguyen Thi Tra My boldly changed direction and started a business with the natural cosmetics brand Myy Nature.

On doubts from people around me: The decision to change from a stable job to start a business was met with anxiety and doubts from family and friends. Many people did not believe that an English teacher could succeed in this field. The advice sometimes made me hesitate.

About capital and market: Starting a business with limited capital, accessing the market and building trust for a new brand is not easy at all. I have to promote the product myself, participate in small fairs, and listen to every customer feedback to improve the product.

What has helped me keep the faith to continue is, first, the passion and love for the products I create. Second, it is perseverance and continuous learning. Third, it is the silent support from my family and trusted colleagues. Finally, it is the belief in myself.

I believe that with sincerity, kindness and constant efforts, Myy Nature will gradually affirm its position in the market and bring good values ​​to the community. It is this belief that has helped me overcome all challenges and continue my journey.

+ What does winning 3rd prize in the "Talented Businesswomen" contest in 2022 organized by the Hue City Women's Union mean to you? What changes has that success created for you and your business?

It was like a nod from life. As someone who used to doubt myself, I was very touched to receive that award. It was not only a title, it also opened up new connections, bringing Myy Nature closer to customers and partners.

I have more opportunities to learn from other female entrepreneurs. Also from the competition, I understand that: Women of any age, no matter where they start, can succeed if they are determined enough. For the brand, that award is the first "guarantee" to help customers trust. After that, orders increased significantly, and product introductions were also more welcomed.

+ In your startup journey, how do you evaluate the support of the Hue City Women's Union?

I can only say two words: Grateful. The Association not only creates playgrounds such as startup competitions, but also accompanies me very closely. I have participated in training courses organized by the Association on marketing, law, branding, etc. That knowledge is extremely practical, especially for an "amateur" like me.

In addition, the Association also supports connecting and introducing female businesses to participate in fairs, women's start-up festivals, and events organized by the city. Thanks to that, Myy Nature is known to more people. Every time I attend an event, I always carry with me the pride of not only being a business, but also representing the entrepreneurial spirit of Hue women.

Ms. My researches and improves every day to have more diverse and quality products.

+ Do you have any advice for women who are dreaming of starting a business like you?

Start with what you really love. Love big enough will make you brave enough to keep going, even if you are tired and stumble.

And don't wait until you're "ready" to start. No one starts a business when they're completely ready. You can learn, do, and improve little by little.
