TPO - To evoke memories of the old days of ration coupons and loudspeakers in Hanoi , Mr. Nguyen The Tung opened a vintage-style cafe right in the heart of Dong Xoai city (Binh Phuoc).
Here, amidst the hustle and bustle of the city, a small café called "Coupon" has attracted customers of all ages. |
Spanning approximately 2,000 square meters, the cafe is designed to recreate the architectural features of Hanoi in the 1960s. |
Nguyen The Tung, co-owner of the coffee shop, said that he and his partner spent six months traveling between Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to choose the theme "Ration Coupons" and design the concept. Tung shared: "As someone originally from the North, I left my hometown at a young age to start a career in Binh Phuoc. Every time I return to Hanoi, my heart is filled with a strange emotion that we will never forget. Besides being a business venture, this coffee shop was also created to ease our homesickness." |
"Coupon Coffee," launched in late 2019, has weathered the difficulties caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, yet remains strong, attracting those who appreciate old-fashioned, simple things. |
The restaurant recreates scenes reminiscent of the years 1975-1987, the final period of the centrally planned economy in Vietnam. |
Nearly 40 years have passed since the country's reforms, the past is long gone, and Hanoi in particular, and the North in general, during the subsidy period, now only exist in memories. |
Upon entering the cafe, even young customers are captivated by the old ration stamps, vintage cars, antique clocks, and miniature replicas of Hanoi's streets. |
When talking about bicycles from the subsidy era, names like Thong Nhat and Phuong Hoang bicycles are the most frequently mentioned. |
“I was truly impressed the moment I stepped into the cafe. I haven't had the chance to visit Hanoi yet, but the image of the capital city depicted in the cafe gave me a glimpse of what the city has to offer. Outside, the streets were bustling with traffic, but sitting inside, I felt very relaxed,” said Mr. Tien, a customer. |
