Vietnamese player causes shock, defeats 13-time World Cup champion

After Tran Quyet Chien's victory (against Roland Forthomme), the remaining three Vietnamese players, Nguyen Hoan Tat, Dao Van Ly, and Bao Phuong Vinh, also played their opening matches in the Round of 32 of the Seoul 2024 World Cup Billiards on the morning of November 8th, all facing formidable opponents.

Dao Van Ly faced Eddy Merckx (Belgium), a player considered a "legend" who has won 13 World Cup titles. The Vietnamese player played a very good match, averaging over 3 points per game, and secured a convincing victory against the veteran of the world of 3-cushion carom billiards.

Van Ly had series of 6, 7, 8, and 9 points. He only needed 13 turns to reach 40 points first (averaging 3.076 points per turn) and won the match 40-24 against Eddy Merckx.

Dao Van Ly convincingly defeated Eddy Merckx in his opening match of the round of 32 at the Seoul 2024 World Cup billiards tournament.

Dao Van Ly is in Group E, and has two more matches to play against Torbjorn Blomdahl (Sweden) and Lee Beom-yeol (South Korea).

In the match played at the same time, Nguyen Hoan Tat also had a good performance against Marco Zanetti (Italy). The Vietnamese player also achieved a high scoring efficiency, with 36 points in 12 innings (an average of 3 points per inning). However, Marco Zanetti showed his experience and won 40-36 against Hoan Tat.

In Group E, Hoàn Tất still has two matches remaining against Martin Horn (Germany) and Peter Ceulemans (Belgium).

Nguyen Hoan Tat also had an excellent match (scoring 36 points after 12 innings), but ultimately lost to the superior Marco Zanetti.

Meanwhile, Bao Phuong Vinh was unable to "get revenge" against Sameh Sidhom. The player from Binh Duong lost 30-40 to the Egyptian player after 22 innings.

Bao Phuong Vinh is in Group H and still has two matches left against Kang Ja-in (South Korea) and Jeong Sung-il (South Korea).

Dao Van Ly, Nguyen Hoan Tat, and Bao Phuong Vinh will continue to play their second match of the Round of 32 at the Seoul 2024 World Cup Billiards at 2 PM .
