Alternate member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of Quang Tri Provincial Party Committee Nguyen Long Hai attended the ceremony.

17 ancient trees in Con Co island district have been recognized as Vietnam heritage trees by the Vietnam Association for Conservation of Nature and Environment, including: 5 Lien Diep Dong trees, 4 Banyan trees, 3 Banyan trees, 3 Phong Ba trees and 2 Nu U trees. These are endemic and rare tree species, 100 years old or more.

With an area of about 2.3km², of which more than 60% is primary forest, Con Co Island is one of the few places in Vietnam where the 3-layer tropical forest ecosystem is preserved almost intact.

Therefore, the recognition of 17 ancient trees on Con Co Island as heritage trees continues to affirm the role and value of the endemic flora on the island, raising public awareness of nature conservation; creating conditions to promote eco-tourism , promote the local image, and contribute to the national heritage tree conservation network.
