Furthermore, in some schools, in addition to the standard conversion criteria, candidates with international foreign language certificates receive an extra 0.75 points when combined with their aptitude and thinking skills assessment scores or high school graduation exam scores.
Currently, many universities have announced their 2025 admissions plans. Many schools allow candidates to convert their IELTS scores, combining them with other factors for admission consideration.
This year's admissions season, at some universities, candidates with an IELTS certificate of 4.0 or higher are allowed to convert it into an English subject score. However, most other universities accept certificates from 5.0 to 6.6 or higher.
The Diplomatic Academy has the highest requirements. Candidates must have an IELTS score of 8.5 to receive a perfect 10.
The National Economics University has just announced the scoring method for each admission method in 2025. Accordingly, candidates possessing international English certificates will have a significant advantage when applying to the university through a combined admission process.
Accordingly, the school awards 0.75 points to all candidates with international English certificates, regardless of their score. For example, candidates with IELTS 5.5 or 9.0 will both receive the same 0.75 points.
Additionally, candidates can convert their IELTS and foreign language certificates into component scores. If they achieve an IELTS score of 5.5, the National Economics University will convert it to 8/10 points. A score of 7.5 or higher will be counted as 10. This conversion rate is the same as last year.
Therefore, if a candidate applies to the National Economics University using a combination of high school graduation exam scores and IELTS, they will receive an additional 0.75 points and can also use the converted score from the certificate to replace the English subject in the admission test combination.

The trend of using IELTS certificates in university admissions emerged in 2017 and has become increasingly popular. In recent years, approximately 100 universities from various institutions have adopted this admission method.
According to the Ministry of Education and Training's university admissions regulations, universities are allowed to convert foreign language certificates into scores for this subject to be included in the admissions combination, but the weighting cannot exceed 50%.
Furthermore, the Ministry stipulates that bonus points for candidates with foreign language certificates cannot exceed 10% of the maximum score on the admission scale (for example, a maximum of 3 points on a 30-point scale). At the same time, schools must ensure that no candidate's admission score (including bonus points and regional/priority points) exceeds the maximum score. Therefore, if a candidate achieves 30 points in their chosen subject combination, having a foreign language certificate becomes almost meaningless.
