As of March 4th, at least 50 universities have announced they will be using IELTS certificates in this year's admissions process. Each university will have its own methods and criteria for selection.
This year, the Academy of Journalism and Communication plans to allocate 15% of its admissions quota to candidates with international English certificates equivalent to IELTS 6.5 or higher, SAT scores of at least 1200/1600, a GPA of 7.0 or higher across five semesters of high school, and a "Good" conduct rating in high school (excluding the second semester of 12th grade).
Candidates applying for programs in Group 1 (Journalism) must have a minimum average score of 7 or higher in Literature across 5 semesters of high school (excluding the second semester of 12th grade). Candidates applying for programs in Group 4 (Sociology), Publishing, and Publishing Editing in Group 2 must have a minimum average score of 7 or higher in English across 5 semesters of high school (excluding the second semester of 12th grade).
The Academy of Cryptography Engineering only considers high school graduation exam scores for admission. The school does not convert scores but adds priority points for candidates with an IELTS score of 5.5 or higher. The bonus points range from 1.5 to 2.5 points, an increase of 0.5 compared to last year.
When considering direct admission for students who are members of the national excellent student competition team and students from specialized schools, Hanoi Pedagogical University adds 1 to 3 priority points for those with an IELTS score of 6.5 or higher.
The University of Foreign Languages , Vietnam National University, Hanoi, is recruiting 2,350 students, an increase of 400 compared to 2023. Using a foreign language certificate-based admission method, the university considers candidates with a VSTEP certificate (an English proficiency assessment test based on the 6-level foreign language proficiency framework used in Vietnam) at level B2 or higher, organized by the university; candidates with an IELTS certificate of 5.5 or higher, a TOEFL iBT certificate of 72 or higher, or other international foreign language certificates at level B2 or higher.
These candidates must have a total score of 14 points or higher in the remaining two subjects of the admission test combination (Mathematics or Literature is mandatory).
Additionally, the school considers applicants with A-Level certificates in three subjects (Mathematics or Language Arts required) in various subject combinations, achieving at least 60/100 points in each subject, SAT scores of 1100/1600 or higher, and ACT scores of 22/36 or higher.
