According to Reuters , billionaire Elon Musk's xAI company and social network X have filed a lawsuit against Apple and OpenAI, alleging that the two companies "colluded" to maintain a monopoly in the smartphone and generative AI markets.

The lawsuit alleges that Apple has been demoting apps and competitors in the field of generative AI, such as xAI’s Grok, in its App Store rankings, while Apple has prioritized integrating OpenAI’s ChatGPT chatbot into its own products.
“In a desperate attempt to protect its monopoly in the smartphone market, Apple has partnered with OpenAI, a company that has a monopoly on the generative AI chatbot market,” the lawsuit says.
Currently, Apple representatives have not made any comments on the above lawsuit.
The Tesla CEO has announced that xAI will be launched in 2023 to compete with OpenAI and other leading AI chatbot rivals. Earlier this month, Musk also threatened to sue Apple for “antitrust violations.”
“Apple is behaving in a way that makes it impossible for any AI company other than OpenAI to reach #1 on the App Store,” Musk wrote in a post on the social network X.
In response to the above statement, Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, said that Elon Musk manipulated social network X to benefit himself and his companies. The OpenAI CEO also said that Musk's actions would harm competitors.

In 2024, Apple partnered with OpenAI to integrate ChatGPT into the company's products such as iPhone, iPad, Macbook, and desktop computers.
According to CNBC , the lawsuit is the latest development in an increasingly tense conflict between Musk and Altman. Musk co-founded OpenAI with Altman in 2015, before leaving the startup in 2018 due to disagreements over OpenAI's direction.
Last year, Musk sued OpenAI and Altman, alleging breach of contract by putting commercial interests above the original mission of developing AI “for the common good of humanity.”
