In recent days, media outlets in Latin America have been unanimously reporting on and praising the significance of the signing ceremony and high-level conference of the United Nations Convention against Cybercrime, which recently took place in Hanoi . They consider it a historic milestone in international cooperation to ensure cybersecurity, while affirming Vietnam's position, prestige, and organizational capacity in being chosen as the host of this global event.
According to the Vietnam News Agency correspondent in Latin America, in an article titled "United Nations calls for the protection of citizens in cyberspace," Venezuela's teleSUR multimedia channel affirmed that Vietnam's hosting of this global event clearly demonstrates the host country's positive role in promoting multilateralism, creating a space for dialogue and substantive cooperation between nations. The article also quoted UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres emphasizing, "Hanoi is the perfect location for this historic moment," reflecting the international community's high regard for Vietnam's organizational capacity and growing prestige on the international stage.
At the same time, the official Spanish-language portal of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) stated that the opening ceremony for the signing of the Convention in Hanoi attracted representatives from dozens of countries and territories, including many Latin American countries such as Brazil, Chile, Costa Rica, Peru, Ecuador, Uruguay, and Venezuela.
According to UNODC, holding the event in Vietnam symbolizes international solidarity and lays the foundation for transnational cooperation in digital evidence gathering, user protection, and cybercrime prevention.
Meanwhile, Mexico's El Economista noted that the signing of the Hanoi Convention by dozens of countries marked a significant step towards forming a common legal framework to enhance international cooperation in combating digital crimes – from online fraud and money laundering to child sexual exploitation in cyberspace.
El Economista quoted experts as saying that choosing Hanoi as the venue for the signing ceremony was "a strong message about Vietnam's growing credibility and role in global affairs."
In the article, El Economista asserts that “every day, sophisticated scams destroy the lives of many families, steal the possessions of migrants, and inflict billions of dollars in damage on the global economy . We need a strong and united global response.”
This call also became the guiding principle of the Summit in Hanoi – where Vietnam clearly affirmed its role as a bridge for cooperation, a symbol of a proactive, responsible, and trustworthy nation in the international community's joint efforts to ensure global cybersecurity.
Latin American media also particularly highlighted the positive impact of the Convention on the region, which is accelerating its digital transformation but still faces the increasing threat of cross-border cybercrime.
According to teleSUR, the participation of many Latin American countries in signing the Convention in Hanoi demonstrates the region's determination to strengthen the legal framework, promote international cooperation, and ensure a safe and fair cyberspace for all citizens.
