Bach Long Vi Special Zone is self-sufficient in energy, even has surplus electricity.

After more than 32 years of establishment, Bach Long Vy island district - now Bach Long Vy special economic zone, Hai Phong city has made great strides in development from socio-economic to national defense and security.

On December 4, Mr. Le Ngoc Chau, Chairman of Hai Phong City People's Committee, worked with the Bach Long Vi special zone government to check the socio-economic development, national defense and security situation and encourage officers, soldiers and people on the island.

The Chairman of the Hai Phong City People's Committee highly appreciated the efforts of the special economic zone government, affirming that Bach Long Vi has transformed strongly, from a fishing village with almost no infrastructure to a developed pole of the North.

Although the economic growth rate in the first 9 months of 2025 reached 107.3% (estimated at 383.56 billion VND) compared to the same period and the island still has surplus electricity, Bach Long Vi still faces difficulties related to geographical location, natural conditions, has not completely overcome the consequences of natural disasters, and there is a situation of prolonged implementation time of some investment projects.

The Chairman of the Hai Phong City People's Committee requested the special zone to adjust its planning towards effective construction, highlighting key points; urgently focus on and prioritize immediate tasks such as overcoming the consequences of storms and floods; continue to complete the medical station, and coordinate with other sectors to thoroughly handle illegal fishing (IUU).

The special economic zone must maintain sovereignty and security, improve people's lives, develop the marine economy, and aim for a strong people, sustainable islands, and solid logistics.

Hai Phong City leaders also requested Bach Long Vi to urgently concretize the three pillars of sustainable development according to the direction of the General Secretary, including: Sea and island tourism, high-class resorts; high-class seafood farming and conservation of sea and island ecosystems as the foundation for long-term sustainable development.

Along with that, it is necessary to complete the goal of building Bach Long Vi into a logistics center for fisheries and search and rescue in the Northwest region according to the direction of the Minister of National Defense.

Previously, the summary report of the construction and development process showed the remarkable progress of Bach Long Vi after more than 32 years of establishment: more than 60 essential works and projects (electricity, clean water, healthcare) were invested, basically solving difficulties.

Currently, Bach Long Vy has become self-sufficient in energy, even having surplus electricity (producing 5-5.5 MW, using 1-2 MW); the value of agricultural and aquatic production has increased sharply (136.5% over the same period), affirming the development orientation of key industries. Education and healthcare have been improved with the remote medical examination and treatment model...
