According to the latest results announced by the world's two leading university ranking organizations, Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) and Times Higher Education (THE), Vietnamese higher education continues to record progress on the global academic map.
In total, Vietnam has 6 educational institutions ranked in the QS World University Rankings 2025 and 9 institutions in the THE World University Rankings 2025.
Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics ranks first in Vietnam according to THE university rankings.
In the THE 2025 rankings, the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) is the highest-ranked university in Vietnam, in the global group 501-600. This is the first year UEH has appeared in this ranking and is also the highest-ranked new school among the 9 Vietnamese representatives this year.
Ranking after Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics are: Duy Tan University and Ton Duc Thang University (same group 601-800); Hanoi Medical University (801-1000); Hanoi National University, Ho Chi Minh City National University, Hanoi University of Science and Technology (1001-1200); Hue University and Ho Chi Minh City Open University (1201-1500).
This is also the first time Hanoi Medical University and Ho Chi Minh City Open University have been ranked.
Of the nine Vietnamese universities listed in the THE 2025 rankings, six maintained their rankings from last year, while the remaining three were "new faces".
However, it should be noted that in previous years, Duy Tan University and Ton Duc Thang University achieved higher positions, in the 401-500 group in the THE 2023 rankings, showing a significant change in the 2025 ranking results.

THE World University Rankings is a world university ranking by Times Higher Education, first published in 2004. THE evaluates universities globally based on research into the core missions of a university: teaching, research, knowledge transfer, and international outlook.
Duy Tan University continues to lead Vietnam according to QS rankings
In the QS World University Rankings 2026 (QS WUR 2026), Duy Tan University maintained its highest position in Vietnam, ranked 482nd in the world.
Ton Duc Thang University also continues to hold the second position in Vietnam in the QS rankings with a ranking of 684.
Similarly, Hanoi National University continued to increase more than 100 places in its ranking position in group 761-770 in this ranking.
In the QS WUR 2026 ranking, Vietnam has a total of 10 other higher education institutions ranked, up 4 schools compared to 2025. In addition to the three above-mentioned units, there are also Ho Chi Minh City National University, Van Lang University, Can Tho University, Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry, Hue University, and Da Nang University.

The QS ranking organization (Quacquarelli Symonds - UK) annually announces the results of the QS World University Rankings (QS WUR).
Previously, according to data published on November 6, 2024 by QS, Vietnam has 6 training institutions in the QS WUR 2025 list and 17 schools in the QS Asia University Ranking list (ranking of Asian universities), an increase of 2 schools compared to 2024.
However, the rankings of Vietnamese higher education institutions in the QS Asia University Ranking 2025 fluctuated compared to the previous year: Duy Tan University, Ton Duc Thang University, Nguyen Tat Thanh University, and Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics were the units that fell in rank. While the remaining units all increased in rank.

Vietnam ranks 4th in Southeast Asia in terms of number of universities in the QS rankings
In the Southeast Asia region, there were 95 higher education institutions ranked in the QS WUR 2026 rankings, of which Malaysia had the most ranked institutions (32), followed by Indonesia (26), Thailand (15), Vietnam (10), Philippines (6), Singapore (4) and Brunei (2).
Although only four universities were ranked, Singapore still showed its leading position with two universities in the world's top 15 (National University of Singapore, NUS) in 8th place and Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in 12th place.
Much progress but still many challenges
According to the Ministry of Education and Training, the fact that more and more Vietnamese universities are listed in international rankings is a positive sign.
However, there are still some limitations such as the number of internationally ranked facilities is still small compared to the overall system, the ranking positions are mainly at the average and low levels, and there are not many schools in the leading group in the region and the world.
Although the quality of scientific research, international publications and citations has improved, it is not uniform among schools, depending heavily on a few strong units. International cooperation, technology transfer and business engagement activities in many schools are still limited, affecting the overall assessment index.
In addition, university governance, quality assurance and investment resources have not really met the strict requirements of the rankings, limiting the international competitiveness of schools.
