Director Vinh Son: "If it were me, I would also choose Tran Thanh to play Uncle Ba Phi"

The news that Tran Thanh will take on the role of Uncle Ba Phi in the movie Southern Forest Land (director Nguyen Quang Dung) has attracted the attention and debate of the audience recently.

Talking about this, director Vinh Son said that if he made the movie Southern Forest Land , he would also choose Tran Thanh to play the role of Uncle Ba Phi.

The male director believes that watching movies means respecting differences. And what he likes most about Southern Forest Land is the difference, the difference in storytelling, character development, and the ideas and messages that come out of the story.

Meanwhile, director Nguyen Quang Dung affirmed that Tran Thanh is the most suitable choice, and until now he has not thought of a replacement.

Regarding Tran Thanh, before the controversy about his role, the actor once shared: "I hope the audience will be able to find something interesting and new in the image of Uncle Ba Phi that I play. It will be different from the previous Uncle Ba Phi, maybe not mature enough but will be fresher and more witty with Tran Thanh's own humor and charm."

Tran Thanh admitted that this role was a big challenge for him, because the image of Uncle Ba Phi played by artist Mac Can was deeply imprinted in everyone's memory.

"It would be good if we keep Uncle Mac Can's image of Uncle Ba Phi in our hearts and open our hearts to new things. If my version is good and is fortunate enough to be accepted by everyone, it will be a beautiful memory for those living in 2023. Each version, each period has its own uniqueness and good points," he added.

Tran Thanh said that in the film, Uncle Ba Phi has a long scene that had to be filmed continuously in just one take with hundreds of actors participating. The actor had to show Uncle Ba Phi's spirit and captivating storytelling ability to hundreds of audiences.

"Just one mistake can make the whole crew have to start over. Only director Nguyen Quang Dung, but in 10 years I still wouldn't dare make a film as extreme as Dat Rung Phuong Nam ," the actor shared.

Uncle Ba Phi was a real person, named Nguyen Phi Long (1884-1964), from Ca Mau . He was good at martial arts, loved traditional music and liked to tell stories.
