Promoting exports, affirming the value of Son La agricultural products

Exports contribute to promoting production development, expanding markets and economic relations, improving competitiveness and attracting capital and technology. In recent times, along with expanding production areas according to standards and improving product quality, Son La province has focused on developing export support services, helping to consume agricultural products stably and sustainably.

Exports continue to grow

In 2025, Son La province strives to achieve 215 million USD in export value, an increase of 8% over the same period. Of which, agricultural products and food account for a large proportion with 208 million USD, an increase of 9.22%. The main export items continue to be tea, coffee, tapioca starch, sugarcane, mango, longan, passion fruit, banana...

Mr. Quang Van Dung, Deputy Director of the Department of Industry and Trade, said: In 2025, Son La agricultural products will continue to maintain their competitiveness in markets, of which China, Japan, Pakistan, Taiwan, Laos, India, the UK, France, Sweden, Germany and the US are the main export markets. As a result, in the first 11 months of 2025, the value of exported goods reached over 208 million USD, an increase of 17.91%, of which the value of agricultural products and food reached over 202 million USD, an increase of 19.96% over the same period. Products such as mango, longan, dragon fruit, tea and coffee are all highly appreciated for their quality and stability in the supply chain. Market expansion not only creates stable output for agricultural products but also contributes to increasing people's income, motivating businesses to continue to invest in depth in processing.

Phu Yen Cassava Starch Joint Stock Company Branch - Son La Cassava Starch Factory, Chieng Mung Commune, specializes in purchasing and processing cassava starch for export to China, has completed its production and business target for 2025. During the year, the factory purchased nearly 100,000 tons of fresh cassava roots, producing over 30,000 tons of finished cassava starch. Up to now, the Branch has exported 20,000 tons of cassava starch to China. In the 2025-2026 crop year, the factory aims to purchase about 120,000 tons of fresh cassava roots, producing 35,000 tons of cassava starch for export to China for partners.

Mr. Ngo Quang Tuan, Deputy Director of the Branch, informed: Currently, the factory has been in production for 30 days, with the current capacity of 800 tons of fresh cassava tubers/day, the average fresh cassava purchase price is 2,000 thousand VND/kg. The unit has linked with thousands of households in Son La province and some communes of Dien Bien province to supply raw materials for the processing factory.

The branch of Vietnam Tea Corporation - Tea Joint Stock Company in Son La (Vinatea Moc Chau) is managing a raw material area of ​​551 hectares of tea, with main varieties such as Shan, Kim Tuyen, Bat Tien, 100% produced according to RainForest Alliance (RA) sustainable agriculture standards, in which the tea area applies high technology for 329.6 hectares of tea. The average output reaches more than 10,000 tons of fresh buds/year, processing about 2,500 tons of dry tea; annual revenue is stable at 120 - 130 billion VND, contributing 5 - 6 billion VND to the budget.

Mr. Le Chi Long, Director of Vinatea Moc Chau, shared: The company has digitized the entire process of managing raw material areas, purchasing and monitoring quality. The factory meets ISO 2000:2022 standards, meeting the strict requirements of the export market. The application of high technology helps Vinatea Moc Chau strengthen the Moc Chau tea brand in the international market, while creating stable jobs for thousands of workers. Since the beginning of the year, Vinatea Moc Chau has exported over 1,000 tons of tea to the Taiwanese market and the countries of Afghanistan, Pakistan, China and Japan.

Ngoc Hoang Agricultural Cooperative, Chieng Sung commune, is currently cooperating to grow about 300 hectares of red-fleshed dragon fruit in many localities in the province. Mr. Nguyen Quang Vinh, Director of the Cooperative, said: The Cooperative's dragon fruit is grown according to VietGAP, using organic fertilizers, with a yield of 20-30 tons/ha, 70 hectares of the Cooperative meet export standards, and are granted 2 growing area codes. In addition to supplying the domestic clean fruit chain, the Cooperative's products have been exported to China, Korea, Russia and some EU markets. Thanks to compliance with technical processes and ensuring food hygiene and safety, Son La dragon fruit is increasingly accepted by demanding markets.

The key to increasing competitiveness

To achieve the export target in 2025, the Provincial People's Committee has directed departments, branches and localities to increase support for export enterprises, especially in the fields of logistics, quality control, traceability and granting of growing area codes. Coordinate international trade promotion, connect trade with the Chinese, ASEAN, Korean and EU markets through fairs, e-commerce platforms and trade deals.

Mr. Quang Van Dung, Deputy Director of the Department of Industry and Trade, informed: Implementing the direction of the Provincial People's Committee, the Department of Industry and Trade continues to provide information to support businesses and cooperatives in promoting and connecting product consumption on major e-commerce platforms; support businesses and cooperatives in livestream sales methods; notify and guide businesses and cooperatives to participate in supply and demand connection programs, online exports, fairs and trade exhibitions organized by the Ministry of Industry and Trade and provinces and cities across the country.

In addition, the Department of Industry and Trade will coordinate with units to promote the application of digital technology in export activities such as: Electronic traceability system, digital platform connecting agricultural products for export, thereby supporting farmers and businesses to access the market more quickly and effectively. Improve the capacity of transportation, warehousing, customs services, creating favorable conditions for customs clearance of goods through border gates such as Long Sap and Chieng Khuong.

In addition, the province directed departments, branches and sectors to promote the development of post-export technical support services such as cargo insurance, trade finance and legal consultancy. These synchronous solutions help reduce risks, save costs for businesses and enhance the competitiveness of Son La goods.

In particular, to maintain a stable export growth rate, maximize export advantages and focus on promoting direct export of key products, products with advantages of the province such as: Longan, mango, tea, coffee, processed agricultural products... On November 20, 2025, the People's Committee of Son La province issued Decision No. 2954/QD-UBND on promulgating the plan for exporting products of Son La province in the period of 2026-2030, with the goal: Striving for the value of goods participating in exports by 2030 to reach 400 million USD, with an average annual increase in this period of 10 - 13%/year. Of which, the value of agricultural products and food products participating in exports reaches 395 million USD; the value of industrial and handicraft products participating in exports reaches 5 million USD.

With the right orientation and the support of all levels, sectors, enterprises and cooperatives, Son La province is gradually affirming its position as a bright spot in agricultural export of the Northwest region. The growth of processing enterprises and cooperatives producing according to international standards not only creates high economic value but also raises the brand of Son La agricultural products on the world export map.
